I finally did it. Today I went to the OS and had the consultation for my wizzies. Before I left they asked me if I wanted to schedule the surgery now or call them later and do it. I told them if I didn't do it now, I'd never do it. So my wizzies are coming out on the 21st this month. I didn't know it would be so soon! I'm only having 3 removed. He said I could keep one of them because I had a second molar pulled when I was much younger and the wisdom tooth grew in beautifully as he put it. I almost wanted him to take it out anyway in case it would cause problems later on but he said he doesn't see that hapening. It's basically a second molar now.
Anyway... I know there are a lot of posts about people being scared and nervous but for some reason, it doesn't help me unless it's my own. I'm so scared that I want to call the OS and cancel and never go and have it done. I haven't been eating much because my nerves are such a mess. He suggested I be put under general anesthesia and said it will be put in my arm. I've never been put under before. What is it like? Does it hurt? He said he won't numb my mouth or anything until I'm asleep. I'd hope not, I'm paying $600 for him to do it. Will I be breathing on my own or do they have to put in a breathing tube? I have so many questions and I really wish I would have thought of them while I was there but I was so scared just sitting there. I'm assuming I'll have stitches but how long do people typically bleed afterwards to the point where they have to keep the gauze in their mouth? I have pretty nasty allergies too so what if you sneeze? Can that dislodge the blood clot?
I'm sorry I have so many questions. I'm a nervous mess. I'm sure this will probably be similar to the time I had my second molar pulled. ): Send help!

Don't worry you've come to the right place. Start reading the success stories if you haven't already. That should help calm your nerves. I am getting 4 impacted wisdom teeth taken out on the 24th and I am also feeling nervous about it.

I can't speak from experience yet, but the bleeding should stop the day of surgery. If you're having issues with bleeding you can moisten a black tea bag and wrap it in gauze and place over the surgical sites.

You should try not to sneeze or blow your nose because it could dislodge the clot.

You will be fine! Best of luck to you

Hi I had 3 teeth extracted and 7 fillings done under general anaesthetic 3 weeks ago. I was very nervous I had a needle in the back of my hand it was just like a scratch, the anaesthetist said I had I'll give you something to relax you and the next thing I know I'm waking up everything done. 1/2 hour later I was up and went home not long after. I know I was given a drug to stop any sickness from the anaesthetic and as they are working in your mouth I had a tube in my nose but you will not know anything as it is all done when you are asleep. I have a very bad dental phobia and gag reflex and I'm very happy I had a GA I had no problems. Don't worry you will be asleep throughout.

Had all 4 of mine removed last year and it wasn't nearly as bad as I expected. It was also my first time being put under and I was really nervous about it. This is basically how it goes down. They'll set up all the normal sensors, to record your heartbeat ect., they'll stick the IV in your arm (that's about the extent of any pain you'll actually feel) and place one of those breathing masks over your face to make it easier to breathe. After that when they actually start the anesthesia, you go under almost immediately. I was worried I would feel myself drifting and freak out, but there was nothing like that, it happened without me even realizing it. I only need to use the gauze for a few hours after the surgery. By night time it had already stopped bleeding. I had a cold at the time and actually coughed blood all over my computer a couple times and while that was uncomfortable it didn't appear to cause any problems for the clot. The rate at which someone heals and how long they bleed is variable though so I can't guarantee yours will stop quite as quick, but I know it was significantly less of a problem than I expected.
