Hi.
I am 18(turned 18 in june 21), female, and I was told when I was 17( maybe in January February?), just a couple months ago that I have localized periodontitis. I am so scared... I have always taken care of my teeth. Maybe some nights I would brush my teeth before bed because I was tired, but I only really drink water, sometimes juice or milk. I was told I will lose i think 3 or 2 of my front teeth, since those cannot be safe. My lower teeth will be okay as long as I get deep cleaning every 3 months. I already had surgery on my left back side, but for my right back side I need something that will help with the gum. I apologize for forgetting terms.
I am really scared... I don't want things to get worse especially since money is an issue. I will have to take out a small loan to get braces. They said I will have to get braces for my front teeth, limitless braces I believe, to help pull the gum down. My gap space isn't that big, it isn't between my front incisors, the bunny teeth, but next to it on the right.
I floss and use the mouth wash they gave me but gosh I am so scared.... I never had a cavity or anything but then I get this.
I just don't know how to calm down. I always feel like my mouth pains are from this, when I don't think they are and it is just me being really scared...

(they said it is severe localized periodontitis)

Hi there, look, there is nothing worse than not knowing, you know? If you've been told that you have periodontitis, that's good news compared to being in pain and not knowing why, and also it's great news because it is treatable. Bacteria have their own way of working and there are many many types of them, which is why you can get periodontitis without ever having had a cavity. Also, keeping your mouth clean is great help, but it is no guarantee with many bacteria. Have they told you you are going to loose those front teeth for sure? In which case, there are various options to substitute them, some of them cheaper than others. For the rest of your teeth, the best thing you CAN do is get the treatment as soon as possible. You are quite young (i'm ten years older than you and will be getting braces after i get my own gums and cavities fixed) so it's great that you can do something about it now, you know? Most important thing is to get a deep clean and keep your good hygiene. Also, try looking at your diet. If you eat lots of starchy food and sugar, try switching to a more green diet. Soups and smoothies can be really good while you're in treatment, just make sure to get the healthy kind of stuff. And brush and floss before bed, because that's when your mouth produces less saliva making it easier for bacteria to take over. Drink lots of water and make sure you get all the information about what's going on in your mouth and how to fix it. Is your dentist supportive? Are you in pain?
Best of wishes to you and be strong. You are very brave to say what's going on and you, like everybody, deserve to smile.
:)

Sorry for not getting back to you. I have had surgery on both side in the bad of my bone. Some kind of fake bone on the right side. They said the bottom teeth are actually getting better on their own. I can see my teeth getting longer in the front. I was told I am not getting braces anymore. I for sure have to get my four front teeth removed. I can tell they have gotten looser, but money is still an issue. My dentist was going to remove them and give me this thing to out in my mouth till the gum healed. Then get my mouth ready for implants. I'm just worried because I still have to wait till my mom can get the money. I'm in college and I just get scared. I don't like showing my teeth anymore. I've always had straight teeth and never had a cavity. I take care of my teeth better than my sister, but her , she has it too, isn't bad at all. I am only sometimes in pain, but not enough to take any medicine.

Sorry you are going through this. Can you get a second opinion from a periodontal specialist?
