I hadnt been to the dentist for 7 years....I was having pain for the last 2 years in one of my back teeth due to a hole and an abcess. I suffer from health anxiety, panic attacks and agrophobia and pretty much anxiety and worry about everything !!!!!!

After several courses of antibiotics and several dentists it was clear this was not going to go away until my tooth was extracted. The last year i could think of nothing more more other than this tooth. I was convinced that there was no way out and I spiralled into depression and was having constant anxiety and panic attacks everyday and shaking with stress and hardly sleeping. Everything that i thought could happen i was convinced would happen to me. Faint when im there, reaction the the injection, pass out after the injection and even if i could get the the point where I was numb my body would go into shock after the extraction and even if I could get through that id get dry socket.

I emailed my wonderful dentist and explained all these fears in detail and he came up with coping tactics for me....I was given all the time I needed and could stop whenever I wanted. He tipped the chair right back so it was impossible to faint.

We had agreed I would have a litle bit of the injection first of all (non adrelaline) so I would know I wouldnt react to it. Closed my eyes thought of all the people from here willing me on and I didnt even feel anything ! Couldnt feel the needle and I didnt even had numbing gel....I had one earphone in from my ipod the music reallyyyyy helps drown out the thoughts....a few more times I closed my eyes and said go....then he said well thats all the injections done I couldnt believe it it went so quick and was all so painless !!!!

Then we agreed he would wiggle it 5 times then stop.....that was fine I felt nothing so I said ok go again believe me when i say this.... THERE WAS NO PAIN NO "PRESSURE" AND IT WAS OUT IN SECONDS. I could not believe all the months of tears and stress and panic and anxiety and it was all over in minutes and completely painless.

Im 6 days after the extraction now and ive been doing hot salt water every 2 hours and ive had a tiny bit of pain now and again but nothing major and no dry socket just had soup first day and soft foods with tiny bites for a couple of days after.

I am now starting to feel happy again and like I have my life back and I never want to go back to that place. Everybody on here has the strength somewhere to do this !!!! If I can do do it anyone can believe me.

Book the appointment and go and do it and because everyone has the right to happiness....its only thoughts that hold us back.

Feel free to pm me if you want to.

Love to you all <3 xxxxxxxx

Its great that you've posted your success story Laura, I know that when I was reading on here before the start of my dental work I was desperate to have recent experiences to read. Just to hear that people, with massive fears like myself, had come through the extraction and were fine was such a helpful thing. Well Done on your achievement !!!:D

Thank you for this! I sent you a message.

You are preaching the choir here. I too am beyond scared. I have lost weight....stopped eating....stopped living....thinking all the worse things that can happen.....beyond anxious and just petrified. Your story brought me close to home and I feel better about making the appointment next week. When I google it I am more scared and start to cry. But hearing your story and others gives me comfort. I am trying for next week. I have Christmas parties planned but I am being told, simple and should be fine the next day. Thanks will keep you posted!!1

Hartsada, I feel so bad for you. I know exactly how you feel. I'm this same way about my upcoming procedure. Not able to sleep, eat or do anything but stress and fear. Having said that... I really feel like you are going to come back and tell us how easy it was and that you couldn't believe you were so scared. Having the right dentist makes all the difference in the world. Wishing all the best for you.
