Hey all new member here. Just wanted to share my story with you and like many here I was terrified of the dentist especially needles. I have been against the dentist since my youth, but my parents would make me go. I never had teeth issues until after I graduated high school. Pretty much on my own I was being lazy with my oral hygiene. I never thought twice about it. I remember going to the dentist and terrified of them putting a needle in my mouth I would have them use the drill without numbing me thats how bad it was. I could taste the drill for weeks after. Fast forward to my mid 20's I was still lazy with my oral hygiene and it finally was catching up to me. Two of my upper teeth cracked and one developed a abcess. Finally had the balls to go in for a double root canal on both. Built them up, but at the time I didnt have a lot of money, so I didnt do the crowns.
Before the procedure the dentist said pretty much my whole mouth was cavities. I couldnt believe it! I started to panick that i would have to start losing teeth and so forth. So i started to get some done one by one, but fell off after doing 6. I never went back for the last 10 years. In the meantime those same root canal teeth I had done completely broke apart again. One of the tooth structures was about gone, but still attached. The other busted off in the back. I completely ignored it and went with hiding my smile, chewing gum to hide my near missing tooth, and at times became depressed.
So i'm 35 and 2 months ago i decided to see a local dentist about addressing the 2 broken teeth finally! Went for a visit and she was pretty shocked what was going on. Again, just about every tooth needed repair. To the tune of 13k dollars. So I made a vow this was my fault and I would go ahead and once and for all get my mouth healthy again. The last 2 months have been hell and I mean hell. I've had 2 extractions, 3 root canals, 6 crown buildups, deep cleaning plus irrigation of the gums, and all my cavities done except one which im doing in 2 days. I am getting 2 porclein bridges done on each side and be able to smile again. I think I'm most happy about the bad breathe being gone. I been going to the dentist 3 times a week for the last 2 months and its to the point where im immune to needles in my mouth now. I wish I would of just taken care of my teeth so long ago and sucked it up and dealt with the needle apart. My neglect and fear has cost me soooo much money, but I will never go down this road again. I really hope anyone reading this just tackles ur fear of the dentist head on and just do it! Trust me you will be glad u did and quite possibly save you thousands in the long run. I have learned so much from this whole process if you have any questions feel free to ask! Thanks.
