Just got home from my first visit in 10 years. I only had x-rays done because I had a panic-attack in the chair. My dentist gave me a referral for an oral surgeon because I need general aneths..... however you spell it. Once I get that major stuff out of the way, he seems to think that we can make some progress. I am not going to get into the state of my mouth, but it's not pretty.

I am not at all nervous about going back because now I have information about what I need. Besides being afraid of the dentist experience, I was afraid of what he was going to tell me. I expected him to tell me that I was going to die, and that just didnt happen. I do need work, but if I take it step by step ( and get a second job) I will make it through ok. I think that now I will go all the way with this. I am looking forward to living without pain. Why do we put up with this???

Thanks to this forum that I found only one week ago, I made and appt and got it out of the way. I read a story that someone had written and I called an made the appt after I stopped crying. This person had a story just like mine and it gave me the courage that I needed , but I am waiting for them to make the appt for themselves.

If anyone needs encouraging, let me know, I can maybe get a little more into the story and maybe help you with making that phone call. 8-)

Hi Jo and  [smiley=welcome.gif]!

Congratulations on taking those first few steps and getting through your first visit.  You should be very proud of yourself!!  [smiley=jumping.gif]   [smiley=jumping.gif]

Your story sounds a lot like mine except I had to e-mail the dentist because calling them was out of the question at the time.  You seem very determined and I'm confident that you will go all the way with this.  There are a lot of great people on here who will help give you the support you need as you move forward.  This site was a godsend for me and a year later I'm just as grateful to all my old and new friends who help me out when I need it.   :D

If you do need to have work done with general anesthesia and have any questions please feel free to send me a pm.  My work was done over the course of two visits while I was put under.  I'm hopeful that I have moved past that but it was essential to get me to the point I'm at now.  (I better be, I don't want to mortgage the house to pay for it again!  :P)

I'm not sure if you've thought of it but you may want to consider starting a journal to document your journey.  I wish I had but didn't think of it at the time.  Instead I started a success thread after the major treatment was over that I write in after each visit so that I can go back and re-read it before upcoming appointments.

Congrats again and thanks for sharing your story!

Take care,
Pam
