Hello, I am having all my teeth out next week. I have extreme anxiety/phobia issues with dentistry. I am also BiPolar. I have no-one to talk to about this that can answer the many many questions I have. I am in a state of high anxiety and terror and am very very scared. I am having it done next Thursday morning and am being sedated (on top of my normal meds) from Monday morning onwards, this has been agreed between my CMHT and dentist.

I am so very very scared and just need someone to talk to and get a few things answered.

Can anyone help me please

Hi :welcome: to the forum

If you ask what it is you want to know someone will be around to answer you if they can. You most certainly will be able to receive loads of support and comfort on here. You may just want to get it all off your chest and that is okay too, we all come on and have a good rant every now and then.

We all understand the stress you feel under and the anxiety, this is the worst time, it is the waiting and not knowing what is going to happen and I am sure you have a thousand and one questions causing your mind to race all over the place.

Try and calm down and not get too stressed, hard to do easy to say I know :rolleyes::rolleyes:

All the best to you :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::butterfly:

Thank you Carole, I've had a lifelong nightmare since childhood of waking up with no teeth, which really isn't helping. I thought I had my head round this but as time grows shorter it would appear not.

Apparently, I will have many stitches, the surgeon has said he is going to single stitch each one rather than running the stitching as usual, apparently this will be better for me.

How bad is it coming round from the GA ?

I'm very worried I'm going to really lose it.

Is it worth using protein shakes/complan until able to eat again.

How bad is the realisation you have just had your teeth out, is it hard to deal with

Do you feel self-conscious when out knowing you have no real teeth

Do you really have no more dental pain at all ever once it's done

Is it really worth it ?

So many questions, I'm sorry, my mind is all over the place once I start to think about it.

47 year old big bloke and I can't stop crying

I don't think age comes into it as this would effect anyone the way it is effecting you. I haven't got dentures but from what I read of other peoples experiences on here they do indeed survive and cope with this loss.

Once you get over the initial soreness and discomfort which is manageable taking pain meds things start to improve daily.

I had GA twice in my life as an adult and both times I was fine when I came round, I felt tired for a couple of days after and rested but I didn't have any bad or lasting effects from it. I do hate it as I don't like giving over control and was afraid I would fight it but it was fine and so was I. The doctors are very good and will do all they can to make you feel comfortable and relaxed.

You won't lose it, they are used to us being in an anxious state and are very good at getting us to calm down.

It is worth having anything you can manage until you can eat again

It affects everyone differently, I cannot comment on this myself as I haven't been in that position, I am sure someone will be along that has to help you with this.

Did they not suggest immediate dentures to you, if not what is the plan for teeth after this?

Don't worry about the crying, for one dental reason or another we have all been there with the tears, sobbing, and nightmares. It is a big thing to have to deal with.

I am hoping that you are looking at the success stories on this forum, this might help you a bit. I am in the UK and so can only comment on how things work here. If you go on the dentist questions and ask your questions on there they are very good at giving us no-nonsense but phobic friendly advice and answers. You sometimes have to be patient because they are all working dentists and come on when they can, which is most days.

I hope this helps you a bit :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::hug5::butterfly:

If the threads I have linked for you aren't at the first page just go back to it and you can read them from the start.
