So, Wednesday July 1st is the day! I am having a root canal, 4 cavities filled, and a debridement done in one sedation appointment.

I'm trying to focus on the relief I will feel when it is over, but I'm starting to get pretty anxious now that the appointment is less than a week away.

Does anyone who has had similar procedures done have any advice or positive experiences they could share? I've never had conscious sedation before, and I'm unnerved about being "conscious" in any capacity during this.

Everyone on this site has been so helpful in getting me to where I am. I'm so thankful for that. Here's hoping the anxiety doesn't get the best of me in the next week. :(

Hello there

ive not had Coscious Sedation but I have had a very recent Root Canal and found the whole thing very comfortable, it helped having an excellent dentist who looked after me?

hope me that this is of help.

kind Regards

Hi i had IV Sedation about 2 weeks ago. I was petrified of the procedure and worried about the sedation working...

I remember going in, answering questions with the sedation people and then freaking out then going into the dentist chair and thry put the cannula in the top of my palm...they explained what i will feel before i actually felt it.

I felt the sting of the cannula. ..then i felt an uncomfortable feeling in my veins - which was the sedation drugs... then i felt light and dizzy kinda....then i woke up an hr later and it was done.

I had 16 teeth extracted and a denture placed....so i felt and remember ZERO of that hour and a half.

You will be fine :)

IV sedation aka "Twilight Dentistry"... not a hospital GA. The company that they hired to sedate me was called "sleeping safely".

...Im thinking this is what u mean when u say conscious sedation?

Yes, that's the same thing that I'm having - not GA.

They tell me it will take several hours... I'm really hoping that doesn't change anything, and that they can keep me sedated the whole time, and that it will go by quickly.

My mind is just racing with worries. I think I know deep down it will be okay. Just nervous. :(

Thank you so much for the support! :XXLhug:

I had two fellas there from the sedation place, the people who do this sedation method are usually trained in doing GA. They explained to me that its the same, just simply not as much drugs administered. You'll be hooked up to monitors so they can tell how you're going and give you more or less drugs - whatever is required to keep you under until the procedure is over.

Thank you for sharing your experience! That's great that it went by so quickly for you and that you didn't remember anything. :)

I just have to keep telling myself that the anticipation is so much worse than the appointment will be. I've been struggling with so much anxiety today though... Just one more day... :shame:

That is definitely the case though..the anticipation is always tge worst. It will soon be over, and you'll wonder why you worried in the first place!

Hi everyone! I just wanted to post again to say that everything went great with my appointment. I HIGHLY recommend IV Sedation to anyone experiencing this phobia. It was a miracle for me. I truly did not feel any pain or remember anything from the appointment afterwards.

My mouth is just a bit sore, but everything is healing up nicely. Now I just have to have my wisdom teeth removed later this month, and have a permanent crown placed. After my positive experience at the dentist last week, my anxiety toward these future appointments has been reduced by about 80%. :jump: I can't believe it.

Thanks to everyone here for the kind words and encouragement that helped me get to this point. You guys are awesome. :XXLhug:

Good on you Dandelion! Glad it all went well for you

The oral surgeon I saw today and his assistants performed the sedation I got to have a wisdom tooth extracted. Heart monitor, blood pressure cuff, thingy on my finger, oxygen tube in my nose, IV in my arm...the whole nine yards. Bear in mind that apparently they are legally qualified to do this. He is a specialist in oral surgery.

I remember everything up to falling asleep and my internal stream of thought was so uninterrupted when I regained consciousness that it picked up right where it left off, and I didn't even know I had fallen asleep. I thought they were still prepping, and was astounded to find it was done. I remember everything from the moment I woke up, when I expected I'd not remember much of the rest of today at all. So strange.
