I am having MAJOR anxiety, not over my upcoming surgery, but because of the sedation. My surgeon strongly recommends I do use IV sedation as I am getting all 4 out, and his experience has shown it is "too trauamatic" to be awake. While I do trust this, I am FREAKING OUT.

I have never had any form of anesthesia or sedative and have no idea what to expect. Can anyone share their experience? I have read that you are not fully asleep, so what exactly is this like? Will I have snippets of memories while drowsy, or be completely out? How do you breath if they're working in your mouth? How will I be monitored?

I am SO afraid of something happening to me while under sedation and never waking up due to complications. I cry everytime I think about this, and I know its irrational but my anxiety is just so bad :shame:

I was going to have IV and I read everything on this site about it, just put it in the search bar also there is a piece about it on the site too, after I had read it and everyone's experiences I was quite looking forward to it. All your questions will be in people's stories, I no longer need the IV now but was feeling very comfortable about having it, it sounds like, you know have you ever been very very drunk or seen someone on television very very drunk it's like that without the yucky dizzy sick feeling, you can talk and breathe and are so very very chilled out but once it's over you can't remember it and when they stop the medication you become more alert, so you are not fully asleep that's how your breathing is still ok it's like that moment just before you wake up but if someone said your name you'd hear it and reply, just sort of dreamy, you will be monitored with a blood oxygen thing on your finger and maybe a blood pressure cuff but also by the team as they will be watching how you respond to voices etc, I'm sure lots of people will come and tell you about their experiences and I just want to wish you all the best. Please try not to worry too much xx

I just had iv sedation on sat. for the first time, it is the best way to do it as you don't even remember it happening and I was worried about after but I didn't feel dizzy, just abit out of it and tired, no side effects and am just healing, abit swollen and had abit of bleeding from my gum but so far, so good. Just follow directions and it will go well. stay positive and do breathing exercises before to calm you.
