Hi all, I’m a 28 year old dude that’s had a dislike for dentist for years. Unfortunately I broke my tooth last weekend and it’s gotta come out as it’s cracked down the root, it’s a k9 that never really came in so luckily won’t need an implant with it.

Found a wonderful oral surgeon and have my extraction Thursday. They are doing IV sedation and getting me a halcion pill to take an hour before.

I have horrible anxiety for being put under because I feel like I quite literally am walking in to my own death sentence and won’t wake up; but I know there’s no way I could do it without.

I also am a bit worried of taking the halcion pill as I don’t want to feel out of control / a puddle of soup or have a panic attack from that pill. As luck would go I caught a cold yesterday too that I’m hoping clears by Thursday because I really really don’t want to reschedule this. So it’s kinda all piling on.

The dentist was very reassuring that the pill will help I’ll come in and we’ll take it slow he’ll do the IV and I’ll go to sleep and itl take about 30min to get it out. I’m just so absolutely petrified I won’t wake back up and afraid this cold is going to mess everything up too.

Any words of advice or experience would be so greatly appreciated.

Hi, hope you’re hanging in there for your appointment. I really liked having IV sedation - my experience of conscious sedation (for extraction/implants) if that’s what you’re having, was not of going to sleep but more a relaxed hazy state. So I was kind of awake or in a dreamy state but not bothered by what’s happening (appreciate it’s hard to believe that’s possible). Hoping that might reassure a bit on your worry of not waking up. Time also seemed to float by and it was nice to be in a dental surgery but not in a state of anxiety! Sorry I can’t answer about the pill before or the cold. Hope you have a good experience like I did. I would definitely use it again if needed.
