Jaw pain after filling was done

Last wednesday i went to the dentist to have an old filling replaced because it broke when i was eating.

He froze me, and i mean froze me, my tongue, my neck, my side of my head , even my ear.

Now one week later, i am still having a tough time opening my jaw full, and i have pain in what feels like my jaw bone and my mouth joint.........tonight when eating i had a sharp pain and i could hear liquid squooshing around .............

Hubby says not to worry, call the dentist , but i am not sure what the heck is going on ?

Could the freezing be in my bone? is it trying to come out ? I feel like a geek, but why so much pain? I never experienced this before in my life !!!

At a wild guess, the dentist may have deposited some of the injected local anaesthetic under the periosteum (a thin membrane covering bone). This can tear the membrane a little and produces some swelling and pain. It may take about 3 weeks to wear off completely (from what I've read on the internet).

While relatively uncommon, this can happen to any dentist. Ibuprofen will help if you can take it, alternatively, other OTC painkillers will do. Move the joint about gently and apply an ice pack to the area outside the joint. When eating, take small bites and "nibble" the food.

Obviously, the above is mere speculation. Please follow your husband's advice and call your dentist for a definitive answer .

Thanks for that tidbit, i was thinking the freezing went deeper than it should have.

This morning it feels a tad bit better, but still abit sore.
