Hell i just joined this forum and wanted to post and let you know about my journey and try get some encouragement.
Since i was young i've always had a massive phobia of the dentist. it didn't help with having such moody and pushy dentists. I had to go to hospital to get a tooth removed as i wouldn't let the dentist do it...
I've never looked after my teeth well and certainly eat alot of junk food so as you can imagine this leads to bad things along with not going to the dentist! (if only i actually went to begin with to avoid what i am going through now)
i have my front upper middle tooth missing.. along with 5 other broken down to the roots teeth....
I decided recently that enough is enough when i noticed my front bottom teeth going out of shape and a bit loose. i looked up in my area for dentists and saw a referal only dentist that deals with anxiety! i got in touch wiht my doctor for a referal and got an appointment...
Today i went for the appointment and was incredibly nervous even though it was only a assesment! She said i need all 6 roots removing from my broken teeth and have 1 cavity. but the worst is i have periodontal disease and she thinks its bad...
So now i will go get an xray and go back to see them on the 20th on febuary. I'm very nervous about what is to come. 6 teeth extractions along with the desiease doesn't sound nice at all.
On the plus side.. they dealt with my anxiety great. she explained everything she was doing as she did it and was just overall a very soothing and nice lady to be around. she was very sympathetic and kind.
Hoping to hear from others who have had other similar experiences who might tell me its not as bad as i imagine!

Yay for you for taking that first step. It’s the worst! I guess there are tons of us here that say what if I hadn’t waited. I figure we should start with the here and now & one step at a time. I’m so happy you have a new dentist who actually listens. They will likely do things step by step with you setting the pace. Is scary when you have had bad experiences in the past. I often remind myself this isn’t the same dentist at all. I have a feeling you just may have found someone good. That first appointment was terribly anxiety provoking for me too. It gets better after time. I knew step by step what she would be doing for the next apt. That really helped me so much. She also stopped for me when I needed it. I send you many many calm thoughts please left us know how thing go for you.
