for the first time in my life i started using listerine mouthwash when my teeth were bad i couldnt use anything. Today my sister has been to the dr's with a sore mouth and has been told she's got a mouth ulser and that her sore gums and the ulser have been caused by using listerine mouthwash.
does anyone know if
1. Listerine can cause problems like this?
2. should i stop using it?
3 does anyone know a good mouthwash to use if listerine isn't a good one to use?
thanks im just worried about getting a mouth ulser now !!!!

Well my dentist suggests listerine but I have read alot that says one should not use it. They say the alcohol in it is no good for you and can cause a dry mouth and gums.
I am using a prescription one now for my gums called peridex.
There are other mouthwashes out there without alcohol in it but not sure if they are any better. My husband uses Crest Pro-Health and likes it but not sure how the dentist on this board feel about it.

I'd suggest a fluoride mouthwash without alcohol (e.g. Colgate Plax), unless the mouthwash you are currently using was suggested by your dentist for short-term use.
If you do a search for Listerine using the Google site search button at the top right corner of this page, you'll find that Listerine hasn't exactly been flavour of the month (or years) here :).

thanks i think i will try something else its put me off everytime i pick up the bottle im worried now !!! colgate plax im going shopping will look for it !!!!
