Nasty taste in mouth

I have been getting a salty taste in my mouth for months now and recently noticed that my 4 front top teeth have a brown coating on the back of the teeth (nothing on the front) which i think is causing this as when i rub my tongue on the back of the teeth the taste gets worse, smoking a cigarette and drinking coffee tastes horrible although it doesnt seem to affect any other things. Sometimes my tongue feels almost numb at the front sometimes aswell, can anyone advise me what this might be, Thank you ?

i've been getting this ever since i had my root canal 2 months ago!! i was thinking it was linked to that and am meaning to go back to my dentist (or find a new one as mine insists everything is ok!!)
maybe someone can come up with some answers

Yeah i really hope so because its driving me mad, ive been to the dentists recently and had a a scale and polish while i had this horrible taste in the mouth but before i noticed the staining on the back of my front teeth, so not sure if she removed the staining and its just come back
