Need major work done, not sure what to do

Well, good news and bad news (sort of).
I went to my dentist earlier today to discuss with him what could be done if I got a $20,000 loan. He looked/rediagnost my teeth, and said my gums have never ever looked so good ie. I am doing a great job. Also said he saw no plack.
Anyways, to fix EVERYTHING is $23,500. So, happy with that being about half what we originally thought, I applied via Capital One and got denied. Aplied at Carecredit (online) and got approved fpr $1500 which ain't nothing. So I need a cosigner, just not sure who to go to My dad said he would, but unlikely we would get approved, or maybe my boss, but he is out of town for two weeks.
So a bit bummed, and anxious at the same time.......

Didn't realize Carecredit is basically a credit, and my dad had a card at one point with a limit of $25,000 or $30,000 so with any luck we should get approved.
To help I decided to pull a little bit out of retirement to pay off 4 of my credit cards. They hardly go down every month (paymnts normally just cover interest) so I figure along with helping my credit, it will help unload a "burden", and help put a little towards the soon to be (hopefully) Carecredit payment.

Just getting sick of waking up every 2-3 hours throughout the night in pain, or in worse cases like last night I just couldn't get to sleep. I imagine once all my teeth are done, I'll have more energy, be loads happier, and feel a lot better.

Got approved for most of it last week ($17,500)

Dad said I coudl use his credit card if needed for the rest.


Went to the dentist on Monday and was in the chair for 4 hours. 3 root canals, bunch of decay removal and fillings (maybe ten or so), and got setup for 3 crowns for the root canals. He put some temporaries on until the real ones come in (I go in on the 16th for another 4 hours and they should be in).

This is the first time I have felt any major tenderness/pain after going, but it was definitely worth it. So excited, I can't wait for them to be all fixed.
He only worked on my bottom teeth this time, and said he's gonna do the top next and go from there. Said it should hopefully be 3 more 4 hour sessions.

Told me I am a very good patient to work on, and what I thought was nice (on top of that) was he really wanted to make sure I was able to see him before he went on Christmass vacation. Nice to know he understands, and cares

Are you saying that this treatment is costing you $20,000!!! That must be about £15,000!! Good grief, that is an average annual salary in the part of the UK where I live!! So say you have 20 hours treatment in total (at the outside) that's $1,000 an hour!!! Thank God for the NHS, that is absolutely unbelievable.

It seems awful that you have to stretch yourself to that financial extent just to get your teeth fixed - I shall never moan about the NHS again!!!

Don't want to be unkind, but I am not surprised he was nice to you for $1,000 an hour - I could be really nice to you for that sort of money!!! lol.

Okay, Okay I know I have not factored in the cost of the crowns, etc. but even so, flippen heck!!!!

Haha, $23,500 to be exact.
It is a bummer that it costs sooo much money, but I really don't want dentures (only 22 years old), and it needs to be done, so I really have no other choice.
There was/is someone else on here who got a loan for like $40,000 if you look through previously pages of this thread. Crazy amounts of money, makes me wanna become a dentist lol.

Root canals and crowns is why it's so much. I actually have the complete treatment plan with prices and everything if you want me to pm or email it to you.

I seriously am stunned at that amount of money!! Presumably some people have no chance whatsoever of getting treatment and just have to suffer?

That said the prices in the UK are high, though nothing I think in that sort of range. I went to a private dentist and very roughly the treatment plan he devised would have cost about £5,000 with the replacement of amalgam fillings, etc.

Am just having the work done by the NHS - leaving existing fillings intact which I am told are fine, and three fillings and an extraction will cost me about £60 altogether, which I guess is just under $100.

I just cannot imagine spending that sort of money on my teeth, but as you say you really have no choice!!

It must be doublely hard for you - you have to find the courage and the money. At least I only (hah, only!!!) have to find the courage!!

I tried to get one before, and the dentist told me to go to a specialist lol. Said with the amount of work needed, he didn't feel comfortable doing it.
Like I said earlier, I have the RX plan scanned in and on the internet, so if you wanna see it I can pm (if you have an account here) or email it to whomever. Just not gonna post it for certain reasons.



Anyways, went again today for another 4 hours. I definitely notice, and feel my teeth/mouth starting to look "normal", and feel a lot better. Still a little soar in a couple spots. Near the end of the session, he decided he mine as well pull one of my wisdom teeth why he was working on that side, and that it was an easy one. He asked if it was ok with me, made sure I was numb (only been numbing me, no sedation or anything), and pulled it in about 2 minutes.
The nurse or whatever showed me a video of how to take care of an extraction, and when it said no smoking cigarrettes for 24 hours I was like wtf..... I've been sitting in this chair for 4 hours. A nice smoke is the first thing I want to do lol. Dentist just said wait as long as possible. That ended up being about 30 minutes haha.

When he got done with the first sets of injections of the Lidocaine (like 10 or more), he was telling the nurse and me how surprised he was (said I was tough), since I never flinch or anything when he puts the needle in. Only time there was a slight issue was when on one in the middle of my mouth, he said "real big one coming up, I'm sorry", I started laughing cause for some reason I found it funny. I think because he apologized ahead of time.
