Hello

So I’ve been told today that my lower wisdom tooth is too close to the nerve to be taken out by a general dentist and I need to be referred to the hospital…

Im freaking out as I’m now very worried about nerve damage or lose of feeling in my face.

This tooth is also always causing me pericoronitis so I’m so fed up of the pain and infections from it. I Carnt imagine what the wait time is for a hospital referral.

Is the potential for nerve damage high?

I have no idea how close the nerve to the tooth is as I haven’t seen the x-ray but I’m going to ask when I see them next week.

Can't possibly answer that without seeing you!

The Max-Fac guys know what they're doing with this kind of problem.

If the chance of nerve damage is high, then coronectomy (basically lop off the top 2/3rds of the tooth and leave the bits close to the nerve alone) is an alternative to extraction and works well.
