Okay to wait a few weeks?

I have an appointment on the 15th of this month to have a crown prep and 3 cavities filled. My dentist does not feel that it needs a root canal. I had a bad experience with my last temp crown, with a different dentist. He said it was quite difficult to do and he really "cut" up my gum around it badly. I was in quite a bit of pain for about a week afterwards.

I'm concerned about this happening again, as it's the same tooth (last bottom molar), just the other side of my mouth. Not a lot of room, a lot of gum covering the back of the tooth. Would really like to not be in pain for the holidays. But my biggest concern is that they are closed on Friday and for the whole following next week for Christmas. So if I need any help, an adjustment, or whatever, I won't be able to reach him. I would like to push this off until after the holidays, so at least I'll feel better about being able to reach them. The tooth does not hurt when I eat, and does not hurt to hot or cold. I do get little pains once in a while. I just can't decide if it's okay to wait an extra few weeks? I don't want the decay to get worse, and really start hurting. Thanks in advance!

I am not a dentist but I don't think anything drastic in regards to decay is going to happen by delaying the appointment until the new year. It would only mean that you are putting it off for 3 or 4 weeks. I would ring the dentist and ask them if it would be possible to rearrange the appointment.

Thanks so much Carole. That's what I was thinking, but I always feel bad for putting anything off. But I figure why not make it as less anxious as I can, give me some peace of mind that they will be open after I have my work done.
