Pain 2 weeks after deep filling

So, I had a filling replaced exactly 2 weeks ago. Dentist told me she found 2 fillings in the same tooth, one on top of the other (great!) , and there was some decay (that she obviously removed ) under the first filling. It was a very deep filling, close to the nerve, and she told me that I may require a root canal in the future.

In the first couple of days, I felt a few short , sharp 'stabs' in the area, and after this symptom subsided , I still felt sensitive in the area, so have been eating on the other side. Yesterday I started to experience some dull ache (which eases with ibuprofen), but surely there shouldn't be any symptoms 2 weeks after the filling ?
It seems insane that I would potentially have to book in for a root canal so shortly after having the filling done?

It's extra stressful as am currently on no income whatsoever as I am searching for work, I don't qualify for benefits as my hubby (who is supporting me in the meantime) is earning above the threshold. So I had to put the £150 cost for the previous filling on my credit card, and any root canal treatment and crown will have to go on the card too. Not a situation I want to be in, but...what can you do?

So my question is, has anyone else been in this situation ? Am dreading having to contact the dentist surgery as parting with money I don't actually have is just as painful as having the root canal itself done!

Sorry to hear you have been having pains after the filling and 2 weeks later. Have you contacted them to let them know, maybe they could take a look? I know for me my mind likes to play the "what if" game and when I ask it gives a lot more clarity . If by whatever chance you would need a root canal this soon, maybe you could ask her to apply the cost of the fillings to the cost of root canal. Not saying she would, but, one time a root canal didn't work with my dentist so he applied the cost I paid for that towards the extraction/implant, which was very good of him, especially after trying dearly to save the tooth. You just never know unless you ask ? but hopefully it will all just settle and you won't need to

I wrote to the owner of the practice today, explaining my situation, and using your brilliant suggestion, I asked if it would be possible to apply the cost of the filling to any treatment (which I think will be root canal and a crown- all on my credit card). I wish I could have been able to put this off until I found myself a job, but...doesn't look that way (meh!)
