Pain in jaw after filling/temp crown work

I had a small filling and a temp crown put on last Tuesday. For a few days after, I noticed a sore on the inside of my cheek and also on the bottom where my cheek meets my jaw. The sore on my cheek has healed and finally gone away, however, the sore on the bottom is still there and tender. It's sore to the touch like a mouth sore would be but also aches. I have pain in my jaw. Anytime I move my cheek to talk, I feel this deep achy pain. I have waited purposely to see if this would just resolve itself but now it's waking me up at night throbbing.

What could this be? I have had a lot of dental work done over the years and never had this happen before.

I'm not sure where they do the injection but could that possibly be infected? This definitely feels like an infection of some sort. I also have a sour taste in my mouth periodically.

Unfortunately, I cannot get into the dentist until Wednesday at the earliest so for now I'm rinsing with hydrogen peroxide, gargling with warm salt water, and taking ibuprofen.

I plan to go in on Wednesday and see what my dentist thinks. I hope he can prescribe a stronger ibuprofen or a mouth rinse that may help.

Any thoughts? It's definitely not the tooth that was worked on. It's way in the back along the gum line or actually more where the cheek meets the jaw bone. When I rub my tongue over the sore spot, it radiates pain and that achy feeling everywhere.

Can I take more than one ibuprofen at a time? I've been taking one (200 mg) every four hours and it doesn't really help.

There are a couple of possibilities of what is going on...

1. Your jaw muscle may still be irritated from the injection. This can make it hurt anytime you move or open your jaw and also give you that achy, painful feel. Your symptoms sound most like this.
2. The tooth may be acting up and referring pain further back.
3. Your bite could be slightly off

Without more information it's hard to say what exactly is going on. You're doing the right things in the meantime. Only thing you might want to do is increase the dosage of Ibuprofen you're taking. You can take up to 800 mg every 6 hours. That is the maximum dosage and generally helps quite a bit with dental pain. If you do take that much you should take it with food as it can cause some stomach upset.
