part of wisdom tooth broke, need it out, panicking

part of my wisdom tooth broke tonight and yes its decayed inside like the dentist i went to last time said, so i will have to get it out but i am petrified so much - i am panicking

i will have to go to the denist nearby if i can get an appointment will ring them first thing in the morning but i am petrieif right now and shaking and i am worried ....i will tell them i am very scared and hopefully theu nderstand

sorry my typing so bad but i am so frightened, i am in a eastern suburb in melbourne australia

maybe someone is online on here to talk to before morning

well i went to the dentist and they were very nice, they reccomend i have all my wisdom teeth removed under a general anethsetic, i am have made an appointment to see the surgeon next week and will disuss with them then...i still feel very nervous and anxious about it all still but a little more releived now something in underwaty and i am not wondering so much.

also it might cost over $3 grand....i have no insurance and am on a pension how can i afford that?

Wow, Lucky - $3 grand seems like an awful lot for 4 wisdom teeth extractions!! But maybe GA is much more costly then either IV sedation or LA. Maybe you should let the surgeon know of your financial situation, and they can either make a payment plan for you (not sure if they do that in Australia) or do it under something besides GA, if that what's making the cost so high???

If you're really worried about it, it won't hurt to ask . . .

Doing it under novo is cheaper and for me, as effective. I'm probably the most fragile person on earth but it wasn't really bad when my wisdom tooth was surgically removed.

Mine wasn't broken though, but it grew in an odd manner and it was the dentist's first time seeing it. It also took 2 hours to remove that single tooth, and moving on with the second might cause some nasty blood loss.

But even with that, I felt absolutely no pain. Just discomfort, a little bit like that tingly feeling you get when you chew on ice cream. You'll do great!

the date you postest this is when i had my wisdom teeth out! i had IV sedation, and i'm the from the US, cost me about 2,400, i have dental insurance, but for the part i have to pay, i can make a payment plan with them, so its good to ask the dentists! usually they like to work with the patient, they are there to help you no matter what! good luck!!

i saw the facial surgeon person today (cost $100), he basically said what i already knew and then the costs, $895 to remove the 3 teeth, $500 for anaesthetic, and between $650 to $835 hospital dependong on the one i choose.

None of it is covered by medicare other than perhaps a small refund on the anaesthetic i think.

But still there is no choice it has to be done!!

The surgeon described how he will remove the teeth, it made me feel extra scared and sick in the stomach. They apparently have to remove some of the bone to get to the roots and get it out (is that normal?) but good thing is the bone grows back!!?

Still scaring me a lot the thought of it all though

Sorry you don't have some responses to your question, but I don't have much experience with wisdom teeth, so I for one, don't really have a response for your questions.

There is a section on this forum, where you can ask general questions that one of the dentists will respond to.

As for my wisdom teeth - due to molar extractions as a teenager, I had room for my wisdoms to come in, and as they needed to come out, due to rotting, or whatever, mine were done in the dentist office with a local only.

There are many stories of wisdom tooth extractions on here though, you just have to find them, some may even be stickies (up at the top of the board that you click on. There is even something called Wizzie World, I think, but I forget where it is).

Anyway, I'm sure there are people reading, but maybe like me, they aren't sure what to say . . . .

Well i had all 3 wisdom teeth removed yesterday, and it was not as scary as you think.

Basically the worst and most painful part for me was my anxiety leading up to it, and during the actual procedure the only pain i felt was the scrape of the needle for the anaesthetic, and the only other painful part was when she removed it, the needle didnt hurt it was the dam sticky tape pulling all my arm hair off !! LOL

Only a very slight dull ache in the jaw since, but nothing terrible just feels like i have been tensing too much sort of sore muscles.

I dont remember anything of the actual procedures, just remember the needle and then waking up and realising it was all over and at one point (dot know if it was the gas or drugs) but as i was waking up i was laughing uncontrollably...perhaps i was just happy it was all over and it was laughter of relief!..

Just taking it easy now and sleeping lots, and hoping it all heals up as i am getting hungry now and sick of only having soups and liquids or mush food!

so i can now honestly say the worst part was my actual anxiety over it all, that caused me more physical symptoms, pain and suffering than any of the actual procedure did - they are very good at this sort of thing in hospitals today so if anyone is going to have it done, please dont stress so much as i did if you can help it
