Penicillin and the start of abscess/infection on tooth?

So I went to the dentist today cause my front tooth was throbbing pain (on a scale of 1-10 it was like a 2.75) yesterday. Today, the pain is gone, but if I add pressure on the tooth or bite on it, it's like a pinch on my gums. My dentist took some xrays, and told me the insurance wouldn't even cover the root canal since it was so small and it just started (I have no idea if she was talking about abscess or infection) and prescribed me Penicillin VK 500 MG 1x every 6 hours (18 yrs old about 110lb). Now my question is, will it take out the whole infection/abscess and I won't have to worry about it anymore? Or will it just stop it from spreading and I will eventually have to get a root canal on my front tooth?
My tooth doesn't even hurt but it feels loose and a pinching pain when I bite on it or put pressure. I'm scared to have a root canal on the tooth cause it's my front one. I've had a back molar done before. How is a front root canal different?

the abscess won't spread from tooth to tooth. The penicillin is to try and dampen down the infection, it won't 'cure' it, only suppress it. You will need to have the root filling done to stop the infection from recurring.

How does a front tooth rootfilling differ from a back? - it's much simpler (for you and the dentist/endodontist), quicker, cheaper and more likely to be successful.
I recommend you get the root filling done soon, before the infection (abscess) recurs.

My dentist said that my insurance won't cover it until it gets worst, and that my antibiotic MIGHT take away the infection. (My dentist is known for being a not so good one.) So if I keep taking this antibiotic, doesn't it just prolong my wait to get my root canal? So, should I just stop taking the penicillin and go back to my dentist after a week or so?
