Re: Possible TMJ/Wisdom tooth probs and terrified!

A lovely name for who I am sure is a lovely lady! I shall think of you every morning now as the sun rises - well even if it is cloudy and we can't see it, it still rises! [smiley=grouphug.gif]

Re: Possible TMJ/Wisdom tooth probs and terrified!

Sorry for the extremely delayed reply. I've been meaning to say thank you SS [smiley=hugging.gif] You're so sweet :)

Well, here we are, in the beginning of November and I still haven't even had an xray [smiley=ashamed.gif] I do feel quite ashamed of myself for putting it off. Now I'm scared I've only made it worse. I'm not getting much toothache at all, infact nearly none. But I do get glandular ache and I know they're still up, a bit of jaw ache too.

It's still the same fear to be honest. Although I am terrified of dentists and the thought of going there has made me shudder pretty much all my life, with no particular real reason. The one thing stopping me facing my fears head on is the fear of being told my only option is GA. I know that Gordon and many others have kindly tried to ease my mind about it, and the fact I do have a choice, but for some reason I still haven't made the appointment.

I guess I'm worried that if they did recommend GA for my wizzies and I told them I'd rather do it any other way possible (including deep IV, multiple appointments or any other combination of sedation) that they would get annoyed, shout at me, tell me I'm being silly and that I'll be fine and that there's no way to do it without GA. That would just make me feel even worse and more trapped.

I'm pretty sure someone on here had some teeth out and a cyst (which I think I have under a dying tooth next too wizzie) with IV sedation, so I know that with any luck I'll find a dentist who will do the same. But how will I know? To have to go through being rejected and thought of as stupid, before finding one who will listen and respect my wishes would be horrible. [smiley=hiding.gif]

Re: Possible TMJ/Wisdom tooth probs and terrified!

Nice to see you posting again Dawn Unicorn, and we can all understand exactly how you feel. I would tell you that I recently - well actually its 3 months ago now - had 18 teeth out under IV sedation. Other people's experience of IV had said they were aware of what was going on but didn't care. I had told my sedationist, I didn't want to be remotely aware at all. I would have preferred GA but that would have meant going to a hospital, long delays and much higher cost. Anyhow he gave me very, very sedation that was at almost GA level. The result, I was out like a light in a few seconds, came round seemingly seconds to find an hour had passed and I hadn't felt a thing. I'm sure it could work the same for you.

I'm sure nothing has got too much worse in a few weeks, but I would urge you to tell yourself that now is the time to do something because as soon as you put things in motion, you will start feeling so much better. And because of the time of year, with Christmas around the corner and people shutting down earlier and earlier and being off work for longer and longer, even if you only make an appointment for however far ahead it may be, at least you've made a start and the relif on you will be great. Don't worry, no one is going to shout at you or judge you - if by any remote chance that did happen, then that is not the right dentist for you and you should tell them so.
So, best of luck, and I am really hoping that you will be able to post in a couple of days to say that you have made that appointment. You know the saying, "don't put off till tomorrow [smiley=grouphug.gif]" etc.
