So 2 days ago I had one of my back molars (36 i think it was) removed. My mouth around the extraction site is painful and sore to touch. I also looked at the area today and saw a bit of greeny-grey stuff where the missing tooth is, and a line of white next to it. Ive been having some bad breath and some horrible taste in my mouth (which is starting to go away). Is this normal? Does this mean its healing?

I could never work up the nerve to look at my extraction site until it was completely healed. But I'm pretty sure that's all normal. The important thing is.... stop poking at it! Give that extraction site as much alone time as you can for a couple of days, and it will heal up just fine. The gum actually heals from the inside out, so the site itself sometimes looks a little weird while things are pushed out.

Warm salt water rinses will help with the taste, and help keep the site clean. Don't swish really hard like you do with mouthwash. Just hold some in your mouth, gently rock your head from side to side to move it around, and then let it dribble out of your mouth-- no spitting. It's messy and the salt tastes weird, but it's really good for healing.

If it's been two days, you're past any potential problems. The socket will continue to heal and look better for several weeks. For me by the end of the first week things were generally pretty stable.

Hello and thanks for your reply!

I went to the dentist for a check up today, and found that I do actually have a little infection in the gum, but I've been given some antibiotics and Corsydl mouth wash and it should all be healed in the next week! :jump:
