Re-filling bite adjusted, still pain?

Hi All,

I've been browsing these forums for the last few days so thought would register to ask a question of my own.

Last week I noticed on my old composite filling (far left molar) I was having very very mild sensitivity to hot and cold food and the slightest ache from time to time (very slight). This composite filling was around 6 years old, so I thought to try and catch the issue early I would visit my dentist to get checked as this came on very suddenly. (To note when I had this filling 6 years ago I specifically remember my then dentist telling me it was a 'deep' filling, however I never experienced any of the below).

I visited my dentist this Thursday just gone, she checked the filling and couldn't see any signs of a crack but suggested it could have 'leakage', she proceeded to do an X-Ray which then shown signs of slight decay so she decided to replace the filling.

proceedure went well, I went away.

Once the injections started to wear off I was in some discomfort (more than before) to pressure, it felt as if one of my 'spikes' on the upper molar was pressing/sitting right on top of the new filling and causing severe pain when biting down, so I decided to go back the following day to have the bite adjusted. I returned and she adjusted the bite, whilst it did feel better I still get the issue of the upper molar 'spike' pressing directly onto the filling, albeit not as bad.

fast forward to today and I'm still getting the pain. It feels better after a few days but I can notice it is still there, if I bite down a couple of times to feel this 'pain' my bottom left jaw aches for a little while all the way down to my front teeth, which subsides after 10 minutes or so but I have been taking iberprofen too so maybe this is masking the pain?

i am planning to return to my dentist again tomorrow when open but wanted some advice on the above, she mentioned when adjusting the bite Friday she couldn't really adjust any more but I am slightly frustrated as I've never had this issue before on the previous filling , and the fact the new procedure has just made the issue worse and I kind of wished I didn't bother going.

i am unable to eat on this tooth, and I receive no other sensitivity. I also haven't really been able to let this rest as when I chew on my good side the 'spike' is still long enough to hit the filling.

(btw when I refer to spike I mean one of the corners of the molar)

I'm no dentist, but have been through a lot of procedures. All of my molars, top and bottom have fillings, and I have had to have some of the fillings replaced.

To me it sounds like the bite is still off. It can be like chinese-water-torture. The bites a little off but before you know it, that little point of contact starts to feel like a hammer coming down. If the filling was deep I think it might be making it even more sensative.

Even if the dentist rolls their eyes about you wanting to get the bite checked again, I'd try to get back in there to have it checked.
