I'll try to make this brief. Those of you that know me know my struggles with OCD and Anxiety and Depression. Ive had my ups and downs with them and working every day on them.

The holidays were stressful for me. They went better then i thought, but i still was a bit depressed over a personal issue beyond my control.

Anyhow, between that, the stress of the holidays and having the family over and a dull pain i have been feeling in my left side under my ribs, ive been anxious to say the lease and was having anxiety at the christmas dinner table where they were serving food that was too hard for my tastes. (Some type of mexican ampenata (Spelling) fried dumpling or something and chicken with lots of bone fragments in it.

My left hand shakes when im having a panic attack and i was having trouble using my fork and trying to hide it.

Anyhow i was kinda pressured into eating something i normally wouldent eat while having a panic attack and i felt pressure on my two left molars with fillings and because of my anxiety i cant be sure if i felt just pressure or imagined or real pain.

It was only one bite and i just couldent do it as i was terrified of it harming my teeth and i excused myself and rushed into the bathroom to check my teeth and they seemed fine. Nothing out of the ordinary. No lingering pain, nothing.

Like i said im not even sure if i felt pressure on my teeth or genuine pain.

The past few days ive been anxious over the thought, OCD has been kicking in, but theres no pain what so ever, no sign of damage, ive done transillumation tests on those teeth and both sides light up even with the fillings in place, etc.

No sensitivy to cold or anything.

Is it possable my anxiety took the feeling of chewing on something harder then i like and exaggerated in my head (as i was allready in a paniced state) or could there be something truly wrong.

I havent been to a checkup for a few years since before the pandemic, and the last thing i want any dentist to do is to remove a perfectly good filling to check to see if theres an imagined crack underneath it and risk adding a genuine one all over OCD Driven anxiety.

Also being how i dont usually like to chew on any hard foods what so ever, what are the actual chances there could be a cracked tooth under a filling thats now 16 years old.

All my fillings seem intact to me, i dont chew on any hard foods, (Not out of pain reasons, just ocd paranoia) and ive gone back into the ocd state of mind where i use google to look up stuff (which i know is the worst thing to do) and i hear from all these shady dentists and ad driven sites how evil Silver fillings are and there bound to crack teeth no matter what you do or how good you take care of them, etc...

I just need re assurance and actual facts.

Sry for the long post.

Al

Eww chicken with bone fragments in it??? I wouldn't eat there either :-)

I really doubt if you've done any damage from what you describe Al, teeth after all, are designed to chomp against opposing teeth, which are the hardest things that occur in nature... so a couple of half hearted bites against a bit of chicken aren't a problem.

Hope you have a better New Year than Christmas :-) As a Scot, that's a far more important holiday anyway!

@Gordon thanks again my friend. Have a truly wonderful new year

My pleasure Al, as we say, "lang may yer lum reek in yer wee hoose"

Let's see what Google Translate makes of that one :-)

Hey there - I am not a dentist but I just wanted to say I also have depression, anxiety, and OCD, and I relate so much to the question of "am I really feeling pain"! It makes me crazy sometimes. Sometimes I can't tell if what I'm feeling is "real", or I'm making it something it isn't, or maybe it is totally normal and I'm just not used to it. It is so hard.

My wife tells me pain is pain no matter what triggers it. I appreciate her validation. But sometimes not knowing if it's coming from something truly being wrong or just my brain believing something is when it isn't makes life really difficult.
