Hi
Have not been on for a while .
I’m booked in to have tooth out again on the 19th of September but I’ve been in and out of pain for two weeks with it and really thought it wasn’t anything although I was scared . Anyway I noticed my gland underneath was swelling and I was getting a lump near my mouth and that terrified me so I’ve been on amoxicillin since Tuesday will finish Sunday but the lump is still there and I just don’t think the infection has gone although I do feel better, and the lumps not got any bigger ? I’m really scared , the dentist said they will give me a different antibiotics but I do get frightened taking medication. I’m okay on amoxicillin .
Could this be a sign they aren’t working? Or is it a bit to quick for this to ease off a bit .
I am convinced I’m going to die and it will be my fault because I didn’t realise that it would get like this . I will ring them tomorrow and just explain that the swelling hasn’t gone but it’s not getting bigger and I’m not in severe pain.

Just had enough and would help me a bit if a dentist could just give me a bit of advice .

Thanks
Natalie

It's fine, as we've covered here so many times, dental infections pose zero risk to anyone with a healthy immune system.

You don't need more antibiotics, you need the tooth removed... it will be fine to wait for that.

@Gordon I am underweight due to on going eating disorders. The swelling hasn’t gone down but not as bad . I have a tiny hamster cheek but more at the bottom where the tooth is lol . I just worry because of my weight that’s also why . The swelling scares me that’s all . It’s not nice noticing it all the time

It's not nice but it's not going to kill you either. You might find it decreases in size a bit, the antibiotics will have wiped out a fair number of the bacteria in the area.

@Gordon thanks yeah it’s still there just is not nice at all . I spoke to the de you she said they will give me another course and then they want to see me on the second of September. Be better when it’s out thanks Gordon

Good luck with the extraction, I'm sure you'll smash it.

@Gordon thanks . It’s under GA again it’s the only way I can do it plus I’m getting any other work done like fillings and a good deep clean . I was just concerned Because under my tounge is where it’s also swollen not as bad since the antibiotics but still there . That’s why I know I need another course . Just need to tell myself I’ll be okay now until Tuesday so I can get another prescription. Could this swelling potentially stay like it is until the tooth is out ? Or will the antibiotics just keep it okay for now ?

@Gordon I’m just wondering why the swelling hasn’t gone down? Really having a difficult time . Do you think I’ll be okay until they open again on Tuesday and I can get another prescription, as surely this hasn’t gone ?

The swelling hasn't gone down completely because the source of the infection is still there (the tooth). Because the nerve in the tooth is dead, there's no blood going to the tooth and so the antibiotics aren't getting to the bacteria in the tooth.
Getting the tooth out will sort it.

@Gordon okay I understand. Hopefully I can get more antibiotics tomorrow again because am
Scared it will get bad again and 3 weeks is a long time to wait until it’s coming out

@Gordon the dentist won’t give me antibiotics but I don’t think this infection has gone. I’m so exhausted. It feels sore under my tounge where the tooth is .I have an appointment next week to see a dentist but I’m scared again . Don’t understand why they can’t give me another course .

Because you don't need them. There's nothing more for the antibiotics to kill off, you just need to get the tooth out.

@Gordon I know but I have to wait and that’s what I don’t understand at all ! Why would they leave me if it was getting worse again ? Then they would have to at least give me some more.

The antibiotics won't help, but they have the potential to cause you some harm (unlikely but possible). So it's not correct to prescribe you any.

@Gordon okay well so far all is okay just my cheek tiny tiny swell . No pain or anything. I am at the dentist on Tuesday then it will be like just over two weeks when it’s out . I have been doing a lot of salt washes as advised . I’m praying this infection doesn’t get bad as before . Hopefully of it does they will fit me in before September the 19th .
