Hi. I had a check up over a week ago. Following this, I had some discomfort near my upper teeth so plucked up the courage to make another appointment. The dentist checked my teeth and did an X-ray but couldn’t find anything. He cleaned them again and added some fluoride. It seemed to improve but the niggly pain is there again. I’ve also noticed a small dark spot appear on the tooth.

I’ve done lots of Googling and found various responses from cavities to an effect of the fluoride.

I’m feeling a bit run down with cold/flu symptoms so don’t know if that’s causing the mouth discomfort. It’s not a terrible pain. Just a dull/niggly ache.

Any advice? I’m going on holiday today and don’t know whether to waste any more of the dentist’s time.

IF there was some early decay there then in theory a Fluoride application would cause it to remineralise and it could be a bit darker. Sounds pretty unlikely though with just a single application.
Best guess is it's a bit of staining. Early decay doesn't cause any symptoms at all...
