Hi. Is anyone aware of a dentist in Doncaster (South Yorkshire) area who specialise in treating really nervous, almost phobic patients. I haven't been to the dentist for the last 10yrs due to a really bad previous experience but I have now broke a tooth and should really go asap. I am a grown woman with 2 kids but the thought of paying a visit to a dentist fills me with total dread. Please help !!

Hi,

Sorry to read about your tough situation. I hope you don't have severe pain from the tooth.
No doubt that your fear of the dentist has grown bigger over the last 10 years. You probably had some bad dental experiences in the past but avoiding the dentist has only nourished the anxiety.

The best goal for now would be making one dental appointment just for letting the dentist have a look and an X-ray for a proper diagnose, so that we will know what the situation is.

Can you write some more about your fear? what does it relate to? than we can provide you better advises on how to deal with the fear of this appointment.

all the best

:welcome: Melsworld,

so sorry to hear about your previous bad experience :( - I hope that your future experiences will be much much better!!

I don't think we've had any recommendations in Doncaster itself yet, though there may be some suggestions for the surrounding area:

I came across this website doing a Google search which is in Doncaster and BDA Good Practice scheme accredited: https://www.edendental-edenthorpe.co.uk (they don't offer NHS though).

If you like the look of the practice (well - "like" is probably an overstatement :p), they also offer a phone consultation with the dentist there before meeting him in person. This would give you a chance to figure out if he might be suitable for you before ever visiting the practice.

Perhaps someone else reading this thread will have a personal recommendation for a dentist near Doncaster who is good with very nervous/phobic patients :).

I don't know a dentist in your area but I was in a very similar situation two weeks ago. My broken wisdom tooth I'd left for four years erupted into an infection that I can't even explain how painful it was! I knew I had to get help and so I went online looking for dentist in my area and the biggest thing I was looking for way weather they stated they worked with dental phobia and nervous patients. I found one in my area and had a very panic filled first appointment and they were marvellous. Only checking gently and doing nothing that I didn't agree too. The outcome is that after antibiotic treatment the pain is now manageable and I'm booked in for a " conscious IV sedation" on the 19th march. I'm still so scared but I'm told by lots including people on here its the best thing since sliced bread. Look them up online and see if they state they welcome phobic and nervous patients. Don't go four years with a broken tooth like I did, that pain two weeks ago made me want to put my head through a wall and I've had four kids! Honestly its scarey but if u can find a dentist that understands your fear, you won't have to suffer . Best wishes too you and please don't get to the stage of pain that is really unbearable xx
