Hello, so I need 4 teeth out in total (3 molars and 1 premolar) and I was initially told that I need to be referred to hospital for the teeth to be removed due to being on steroids. Now the plan is to get them removed one at a time at my actual dentist so I'm getting a bit confused. Would steroids affect extractions? And if so would it be better to be referred? I'm on them for low blood pressure so I'm a bit worried about what could happen e.g. fainting. Thank you.

taking steroids can effect healing. difficulties arise if your daily dose is over 100mg as that is your usual own natural production level when maybe treatment could be better at hospital as you may need an increased dose of corticosteroids prior to treatment. you do need to follow post extraction care advice carefully to reduce risk of getting a 'dry socket'

It rather depends on what kind of steroids you're taking, what dose and how long have you taken them? I assume your dentist knows this stuff :-)

Treatment in hospital is very unlikely to be needed, it should be perfectly safe for your dentist to do this treatment for you. It might be necessary to take an extra steroid tablet before your treatment but this is something your dentist can manage.
