Hi Guys,
Looking for a bit of a advice. Having experienced toothache and pain when eating for the first time a month ago, I was keen to get this checked out by a local dentist.
I arrived, and was checked out and told I would need a filling as I had a cavity on my rear left wisdom tooth (think it my wisdom!).
I had the filling, and the pain when eating had and has gone. But I was experiencing bad pain when cold touched that side of my mouth, even still to this day. I do understand that when having fillings this can be present for a few weeks because of the trauma to the tooth. (White filling).
But what I have been experiencing for the past 3 weeks is at random times of the day, I would get toothache in that tooth, it can be early morning, afternoon, evening or even in the middle of the night and it would last for anything to 5-20minutes.
I have been to the dentist 3 times now, 1st time for the filling, 2nd for some antibiotics (as he thought I may have an infection) and the 3rd time (tonight). Tonight he sprayed cold air onto the tooth and it hurt straight the way, he told me my only option is to have the tooth out as somewhere on my tooth is a hole that is letting cold in!
I had never experienced this pain before the filling so I am thinking has he done it right? (he claims he has), neither any random toothache.
So my only option is to have my tooth out (which I personally do not think is the best way to resolve my problem).
Could anyone give me any advice if to wether this is true? my tooth never hurt this much before, and since the filling its worse, unable to let any cold or hot food touch it. I get no pain when eating etc etc, just raindom pain and sensitive to cold.
P.S I remember him saying it was quite a deep cavity.
Questions:
1. Is this normal?
2. Tooth extraction...really the only option?
3. Could it be down to the white filling?
4. Could this be a dodgy dentist? afterall, I have had no X-rays etc and at the point tonight which he said 'you must have a small hole that is letting cold in, I cannot find it'. And the pain has only appeared since he drilled and did the filling!
