Gee, I thought I had this whole dental phobia thing licked. Guess not, because my appointment is tomorrow and here I am upset again even though the first round of extractions went extremely well.

This is going to make me sound certifiable, but I think I'm worried because I'm not as scared as I was the first time. During the first round of extractions, I was so terrified I was in a daze. They literally could have done anything to me and I'm not sure I would have noticed because I was so focused on how nervous I was feeling. This time around I'm not quite as terrified, so I'm worrying that I will notice things that I didn't notice the first time. Wow, that made no sense. I'm scared of not being scared enough. :giggle:

Think of me tomorrow!

I think I know what you mean. I ALWAYS worry if I am not worried enough before an appointment- I feel like if I am not worried, then maybe I am not really prepared to face this fear and it will come back to me in the end. So then, I worry myself into a spaz attack before the appointment and if all goes well, then I just feel silly afterwards, but not upset or scared.

Good luck tomorrow, reallyginny, I'm sure you'll do fine.

Dental phobia is a weird thing: it doesn't move in a straight line. Sometimes it feels like you're "cured" and can just stroll right into the dentist, and other days your body reacts just like it used to and the terror creeps back in. Remember that it's just your irrational mind playing tricks on you.

I definitely understand though. The first visit, as terrifying as it is, it's like you're in some kind of cloud. But no matter how calm I get, I still always feel a little terrified each time I sit in the chair. It's a strange thing to wish on someone, but I think you'll be scared enough when the moment comes.:hmm:

Hi reallyginny,

I wish you good luck for tomorrow :clover::clover::clover:

Agree with both you and shamrockerin: I'm also worrying about being not scared ( enough). The worst part was BEFORE of my first visit - actually now I can believe that the whole treatment can be painless :)

So, good luck :clover: and best wishes,

victorine
