I have severe dental anxiety and I've been putting off this extraction for a while. It's an upper left molar, next to the last tooth I think.

I broke the part closest to the roof of my mouth over four years ago. I broke the part closest to my cheek two days ago. I'm getting it extracted tomorrow. It's severely decayed.

I'm extremely nervous about it. I'm not sure if they'll give me nitrous or not. I've never had it though. I also hate being numb.

I'm scared about the procedure and recovery.
Can someone give me an estimate of about how long it will take for the procedure? I panic so bad during it. Mostly not being able to swallow. I'm also scared about my sinuses getting involved. Or an infection spreading.

Please explain how the procedure will go and what the pain and recovery will be like. I'm so nervous and want to be prepared.

I also vape a lot. I did get patches and lozenges, but I've never used those either.

I would appreciate any advice, guidance, anything because I am super worried.

Probably too late now.

Local anaesthetic 2-5 minutes
Extraction, 1-2 minutes if it's straightforward.
Stop bleeding (press with a cotton roll or swab) 5 minutes

You can swallow fine during the extraction if you need to. You probably won't have time though...

Little bit of discomfort afterwards but simple pain relief will sort that. Take it easy for the rest of the day and don't do anything strenuous.

Don't vape for 12 hrs at least, preferably 24.

Good luck.

@Gordon thank you so much! It took about an hour, the tooth was really bad. It's been about six hours since the extraction. It wasn't quite as bad as I thought.
I haven't taped, but I really want to. I do have a nicotine patch on.

@frowise was it a surgical extraction ? I have been told I have to have one for an upper molar and I’m terrified. Hope your ok
