White Coat Syndrome/Blood Pressure/Oral Surgery

I have an upcoming procedure scheduled for a week from today...the plan is to remove two molars (one on each side of my mouth/both upper & lower). I had a consultation today and was given paperwork that said I would be under "deep sleep sedation". I was told to prepare to have an IV put in. I have no issues with that part; BUT...I grapple with "white coat syndrome"...even if I have no particular anxieties about the procedure; my blood pressure will skyrocket in anticipation of having my blood pressure taken.

I would like to know if they will take my blood pressure in advance, and if so...will they likely refuse to do the surgery if my reading was high? Would they sedate me first, and then get a bp reading? I've caused my regular doctor & his staff anxiety (haha) by having high readings while in their office. I enjoy learning about the medical field, and will even watch a procedure (if at all possible)...but there's something about that bp test that triggers me.

Any advice? Should I seek out my doctor to prescribe a Valium just for that morning, beforehand? I'm not sure what to do here...but would hate to have to wait until another time...this tooth is killing me!!

My dentist does take my blood pressure first, and it is always high, but they do continue. I have the same issue, my blood pressure skyrockets in response to the white coats. As to whether your dentist will continue, I don't know. It might be worth a cake to ask them about it, and also to inform them of it. I've has doctors repeat it later, once I've calmed down a bit, and it is lower, so they know it is not actually off the wall and in need of attention.

I'm the same. My BP soared to over 200/100 with a pulse of 135 but, apparently, returned to normal while sedated.
