My first appointment is coming up on Tuesday. I am starting to get a handle on the idea because I know that it is just an exam and nothing will be done. But I am still terrified of everything that could be wrong with my teeth and I can't stop thinking about it. My question is: Will I feel relieved that I made it through the appointment even if I get bad news? In other words, do you think just getting through his first dreaded appointment will be enough to make me feel better? Or will all of that be negated if I get the bad news that i am expecting? Did any of you feel worse after the first appointment?

I think it really depends on you. For me, the unknown will always be worse than the known - no matter how bad. After my first appointment I knew I needed a lot of work done, but at least I knew and could start preparing for it. I will say too that, for most people on here, their are really not nearly as bad as they thought. I, on the other hand, was blissfully ignorant to all that could possibly be wrong. Even so, getting through the first appointment, meeting the dentist, and coming up with a plan to fix everything made me feel so much better.

Hi I didn't see a dentist for 24 yrs and it took loosing a front tooth to call a dentist office and make an appt. the news I got was not good I needed multiple extractions and upper and lower partials due to bone loss. Despite all that, I felt relieved, and very proud of myself. I suffered For so many years because of shame and fear and now I know there is hope! I have seen the dentist 3 times now and I just had my molds done and I go back on oct 27 to get my final extractions and my partials placed! I'm very excited to smile again!! So the answer is I'm very happy and I'm on my way to freedom!!
