Thinking on this , wondering do you prefer to go to your regular general dentist for things like extractions/root canals or would you rather see a specialist? I know myself I prefer to see my regular dentist as I trust him and am used to his chairside manner and painfree way of doing things and he knows me and my anxieties. and being familiar with the surroundings makes me less anxious as well

Of course My answer is based off having a regular dentist I have built trust with. Certainly there are many compassionate kind specialists who will do a great job and have different experience and expertise.

For me it depends! I think I’d feel comfortable with a regular dentist extracting a tooth, I do think I’d go to a specialist for a root canal.

I would prefer a specialist, but for the same reasons you stated. I have more of a rapport with my endodontist and oral surgeon than I do with my denrist.

My dentist is fantastic, so I would be guided by her. When I needed a root canal on a tooth with twisted roots, she referred me to an endodontist, but she has done a root canal on another tooth, and extracted a wisdom tooth (super easy) and a lower molar (less easy, but we got there). I prefer to see one, trusted, person if I can.

I think here in the U.K. it is more common for general dentists to extract teeth unless there are complications. I had 14 extracted for orthodontic reasons as a child, and they were all done by my usual dentist. (Mix of baby and adult teeth.)

My general dentist. Absolutely. Because I feel in good hands there and we had build trust and he knows what details to take care of to make things easier for me. He also knows what is his skill level so if he feels he could do the treatment then he can. If there was a reason for me to be referred to a specialist, he would do that AND send me to someone trusted who he knows can deal with nervous patients.

My dentist refers out for extractions and root canals. I trust her judgment and would rather see the specialist to ensure that it’s done properly. All of the specialists that she has sent me to have been excellent so as long as they come recommended by her I’m ok with it. I know people who have had complicated work completed by their general dentist and had to go to the specialist anyway because of complications so I’d rather just see the person that does it all day long and prevent issues down the road.

I prefer my dentist but he did not want to do my wisdom tooth for it was curved around the root of the tooth next to it. The Specialist was very nice. The receptionist was not. The doctor can be the best ever but when you have a mean nasty receptionist that acts stuck up with everyone it makes my fears come flooding back but after surviving her I loved the surgeon that removed my wisdom tooth. He was amazingly funny and quite a hoot

My dentists area of expertise is in oral surgery, full mouth reconstruction, traditonal and mini implants, denture fabrication, oral conscious sedation, along with a few other things. I trust him to do the job right, I wouldn't want anyone else treating me. Plus he's really nice to look at lol, is very compassionate, respectful, and you walk out with your dignity, he treats you like you matter and he isn't judgemental.

I have seen my dentist for roort canal and fillings.

I don;t know about when I need a crown next year as she is talking aboue one, I would trust my dentist to do the job properly. and guide me through what she is doing
