Had a root canal on my back top molar done two years ago...pain came back and a year later had another root canal done. That second root canal was 3 months ago. Doctor seemed confident he got everything.

I do have gingivitis which they did the scaling treatment on a month ago.

Over the last few days that tooth is showing occasional signs of minor sensitivity when I bite down real hard with occasional very minor pain in the gum directly where it meets the tooth.

Are the chances now good of an extraction, and I know this seems silly but if I go to the doctor on monday and he recommends extraction would it have to be done that day or can an extraction wait 48 hrs. if I've got something going on important on tuesday (I've got an important date that night)? Or is there such thing as a third root canal on a tooth?

It's an upper molar, it's got at least 4 root canals :)

I wouldn't get too worked up about it, both my root treated teeth can get a bit sensitive to biting every now and again, I think it's to do with the lack of perception within the teeth due to lack of nerve endings, you tend to batter them when you're eating and the little ligament that holds them in place gets bruised.

Back to your question, no you can wait a while for the extraction if you're not in absolute agony.

Good luck with the date :)
