Good Evening,

Just after some advice. Had a bottom molar extraction 8 months ago and the gum on the outside of the socket is hard and very tender when touched. It looks and feels like a piece of the tooth has been left in. It's been like this since May. Saw dentist in July and he never mentioned anything, but now it's slightly more painful. Is this normal. Thank you for reading.

Could be a small sharp edge of the socket is cutting through as the gum shrinks down over it, it's not likely to be a bit of root, the symptoms don't really fit that.
If it's a sharp edge of bone then it'll eventually go away on its own.

Thanks Gordon. I wondered if it was a sequestra but it does seem like its shrinking. Hope you are well.

All fine here thanks. If it's a sharp edge, that'll spark some inflammatory responses and that normally triggers the osteoclast cells to get stuck in about it and remodel it.

Glad you are okay. How are the dogs. Dexter has grown so much.
