Hello everyone, I discovered a large abscess on my lower right third molar. The gum was just a little tender when brushing and did not think anything of it. Until I got curious and took a look. There it was the large swollen abscess, I saw myself turn white as a ghost in the mirror at that moment lol

Being the hypochondriac I am, I began looking, poking and prodding. All the things your dentist does not recommend. Pus and blood eventually oozed out at the gum line.

From my panicked research I know I must visit the dentist in order to get to the bottom of the problem. My main questions are...

1) There was only minor discomfort, heard abscesses can be some of the worst pain ever. Is this normal or was I lucky?
2) What are truly the odds of getting a major complication? I.E. airway closing or sepsis
3) I’m a wreck, Can I have a hug?

Thanks for reading!

Hi there :),

Not all abscesses cause a lot of pain, though most of them do, so you can count yourself lucky!

Have a look at this thread in our FAQ section: How long before an abscess kills you? - this should answer your second question. You will feel a lot better once you can get the problem taken care off though.

And thirdly: :grouphug::hug5::hug2::bear::hug4:

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this means to me! I felt so alone :hug5::hug4:

Heyy, don't panic! Hope you can get it sorted soon (with the support of an incredibly lovely kind caring dentist) and of course you are at the best place here for hugs and support and you are not alone! :there-there: :hug: :hug4: :hug5:

I am a big hypo when it comes to my health and had my share of abscess, which needed treated with antibiotics and following yet needed re-root canal done due to infection, I did not want to lose the tooth, if I did lose I want an implant, I dont want dentures never. I hate my teeth.

The first abscess I was unware I had one, 2nd and 3rd one put it off a couple of days going to dentist I go regularly but I hate going.
