Hi all.

2 days ago i was eating something and a tooth popped. This is just all in a days work for me because i have 8 decayed molars and no matter what i wont see a dentist and i dont even know why i avoid them. Im not scared of the treatment but i think its more than my teeth are my secret, i dont even smile any more and to open up and be abused dont really do it for me.

3 weeks ago i made an appointment to register at a NHS dentist and have an appointment on 30th. I am going to do everything the dentist says providing he fixes all my teeth!

But before all of that, i tried to get an earlier appointment as i have been up for 2 days. It wasnt possible as my "soon to be" dentist is on holiday.

I then took some time off to goto a dental access clinic... just like a hospital clinic for people in pain with no dentists. I got the bus there and it was "Closed for staff meeting".

So im bored of all these options failing.

I dialed up a friend of mine and purchased 250mg of Cefaclor Capsules which are anti-biotics, usually prescription based.

Can i take these bad boys and start the recovery process, will any anti-biotic do?

Ibruprofen, paracetamol, hy???cocodine... none of them do anything for the Pain and ice makes it better but at the cost of making it worse unless i side with my face on an ice bucket all night.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Anti bioticts will get any swelling and infection down, therefore ease the pain untill you can get to a dentist.

Surely they wouldn't be closed all day for a staff meeting? A Dental Access Centre could be an excellent option for you, so I would suggest you phone for an emergency appt before going along. We have had only good reports so far about dental access centres as far as the attitude of the staff and the comfort level of the treatment, is concerned. If you think about it they will be used to seeing people who have avoided the dentist for some time for whatever reason.

When you say you don't want to 'open your mouth and get abused'...were you referring to hiding your smile so that other people can't make negative remarks about your teeth or were you thinking about dentists being judgemental and making negative remarks? There's some info here on dental embarassment..it is a very common reason for avoidance of dental care, so you are not alone.
