I was not very worried about my first root canal, but when the time came for my lower back tooth to be photographed (or x-rayed or something like that), I felt like I couldn’t breathe until the dentist removed the plate or card (or whatever the thing was called). Usually the plate is vertical before the photograph (or x-ray or whatever), but this was horizontal and pushed into the floor of my mouth. This happened 3 times and left me gasping for breath and coughing after that part of the procedure was over. It made me gag at one point. I know that the root of my tooth was atypical, but no one has ever mentioned any problem like this to me. In fact, friends assured me that the root canal wouldn’t hurt because of the numbing medication.

Hi @Magda, I haven’t come across this either… I’ve moved your post to the dentistry questions section in case one of the dentists here might know what happened there!

Presumably they had to shove the film deeply down into the sulcus (the valley between your tongue and teeth) in order to get a clear shot of the tip of the root of your tooth.

Shouldn't be an issue when you actually get the treatment done.
