Confused about shade of new crowns

I think more confusion comes into play if two male dentists are talking with one another. :( I would start wondering hey is he checking out my teeth purely for professional reasons or is there something else going on.... heeeEEEyyyy!! >:(

When we finally meet, I promise to stare steadfastly at a spot somewhere around the top of your head, but I expect you to reciprocate. :)

 - do you two guys *really* think that planting such nightmarish visions into unsuspecting phobic minds will help anyone??? Shame on you :giggle:!

As annie778 said about making the crowns more creamy near the gum and whiter along bottom, I have just studied mine for the hundreth time and that is the way mine are, so maybe I am mistakingly focusing on them being yellow?

My natural teeth beside the crowns are more creamy at top and whiter at bottom - sorry, I know I sound really ignorant compared to you all but I think I am totally fixated!

All the talk about removing perfect fitting crowns is also making me think twice on having them replaced.

I also agree that having 4 front crowns slightly different shade from others could give a 'false look'? Need a drink!:sleepyjuice:

"Perfect" teeth would normally have the 4 incisors slightly lighter than the 2 canines, this is because of the greater thickness of dentine in the canine teeth which tends to make them a bit more yellow. Dentine is quite opaque, enamel is more transluscent.

So having the 4 incisors say A2 and the canines say A3 would like very natural, but the funny thing is most patients would prefer all 6 the same shade, which is actually not natural at all!

As for you and your dirty mind Let's Connect, I'm not sending you photos of me in my swimming trunks again, it seems to have a disturbing effect on you... I think a good cold shower and a mug of cocoa is what you're needing.

Dr Zzzz and I have a totally platonic relationship at all times, isn't that right sweetie pie?

I would fear that might make us worried we each had some big flake of dandruff or something sitting on top there so maaaaybe I think we are much better off just communicating online!

:( [smiley=scared.gif] I would have it no other way, honey! Yep, definitely online is best!

Thank you all so much, this is a really great website, but this message is for Gordon: I logged on last night hoping for a bit of last minute advice before I seen my dentist today - I had almost resigned myself to make do with what I had - just to refresh: I had requested the 4 incisor crowns to be A1 and the rest A2 but the technician sent them back all A2.

So Gordon, when I read your post last night it made me more confident to voice my concerns to my dentist today and also made me realise I needed to make this adjustment so that I can be truley happy with them.

I was really nervous when I seen him, but he was more than happy to replace the front four as he said he wants me to be happy with his work and also the fact that I was paying a small fortune.

The lovely receptionist also calmed me and looked at my teeth in the natural light before I went in and agreed that they shouldnt have the yellow tinge over 90% of them.

I have to wait until end of month to have them removed and another 2 weeks of the dreaded temps - but thats nothing compared to getting my dream teeth - not the Holywood smile but nice fresh looking teeth! I will finally sleep soundly tonight. Thanks again. [smiley=jumping.gif]

I'm completely confused too but glad you are happy with the proposed way forward. [smiley=jumping.gif]
