It all started with a root canal on 14. After they put the crown I could not stop rubbing my tongue against it constantly. A specialist had done the root canal and he said the root canal was perfect that I must have sinus problems (because I just happened to have a stuffy nose when I saw him). Then the dentist who put the crown said I just needed to get used to the crown. Years later 14 still continues to bother me and I continue with the rubbing me so I end up having sinus surgery! And then the pain moved to # 13. So I ended up at another endodontist who got obsessed with curing me and he ended up doing additional root canals on both 13 and 14. He only charged me $500 for thousands worth of work because he felt bad I had gone through so much already. During this time only 13 was bothering me so he concluded that after all the root canals if my tooth kept bothering me then there was no other option but to take it out. So I had 13 pulled and the discomfort/pain/ tongue obsession went back to 14 and canine 12 also started to get a numbing sensation. So I had 14 taken out (it was a crown) because it was the original culprit and the pain moved to 15. So I had two teeth taken out and the pain moved to the other two teeth next to those! It’s like a traveling sensation. My teeth are not crowded at all. I had braces as a child. I constantly rub my tongue against 12 and 15 (13 and 14 are gone now). So taking out the teeth did nothing. The discomfort moved to the other two teeth! I wake up in the morning and 12 is the one that starts bothering me first and my tongue gets obsessed with it (I also rub the roof of my mouth on top of 12) and then later the discomfort moved to 15 and my tongue gets obsessed with that tooth. Sometimes it’s both at the same time. I try to explain that I feel a tingling sensation that turns into a feeling of pressure that I feel like pulling out 15 with my fingers that’s why my tongue goes there because it feels that discomfort! But it’s like the chicken and the egg. My tongue is obsessed with the teeth because the teeth really hurt or my teeth hurt because I’m constantly rubbing them with my tongue. I look and sound like a crazy person. ? But if I’m super busy doing stuff, I forget about the teeth for a little while. Or if I have some beers with family/friends, I’ll forget about the teeth. When I wake up, I don’t have the sensations. So at night, I’m not rubbing or feel anything but I do take a sleeping pill. Without the pill, I would probably be obsessing all night. I’m a 47 year old woman. I’m married and have 2 kids. By 9 pm, I don’t want to deal with anyone. I just want to go to sleep to be done with the chronic pain because by that time 15 is in pain from rubbing it all day. I’m not working right now but when I was working I still had the obsession at work. My dentist tells me what is it in my life that I am so stressed about? And I’m like nothing! What stresses me out are these teeth! I have just always been an anxious, stressful person but I have a Masters Degree in Communications and if you see me interacting with other people, you would never guess I had this problem. The people at my regular doctor, the dentist, my friends, family see me as a happy outgoing person. The life of the party. They don’t understand how I can have a chronic condition since 2015 that no dentist, dr, neurologist, psychiatrist has been able to cure. Sorry I wrote so much. If I ever find a cure, I will have to write a book about it. I’m having my implants put in a couple of weeks. I’ll update this with the results. Good luck with your problem. I hope you haven’t had it as long as I have. I think for some people if the dentist adjusts your bite, it will make a difference. I just had years of teeth grinding so I think my teeth are extra sensitive plus there is obviously an ocd component in there that I haven’t been able to control with medication. I’ll tell my dr about Mianserin. He probably won’t give it to me because he has changed my medication so many times. He thinks I have to get up at 5 am and do Yoga at a Gym with an instructor. Like if I don’t have kids and a household to run. Btw, I workout almost everyday which is supposed entertain your mind and I rub my teeth the whole time I’m exercising.
