Hi there.

I have had this problem with one of my front teeth for a week now, on the left side at the top of the tooth I notice a round dot, like a greyish colour. It's been the same size for a while now and I brush my teeth once a day(now it's twice until I seen this). I thought O.K I will wait a little but now I am starting to worry about it.

I really need to know if its tooth decay(though I think it is) and if I would need to be going to the dentist A.S.A.P? And roughly how much would it charge for the check up and if needs be what would need to be done to the tooth, is the main thing I really want to know.

It's only a little dot but like I say I am worried it'll get worse. I will try and get a picture up with how it is soon which will give you all a better idea.

I am just scared of it if I need to go dentist.

Thanks in advance for the replies is any. :)

Hi, obviously I can't diagnose you since I'm not a dentist and I can't see you but what you describe could be decay but could also be a number if other things. Teeth arnt an even colour all the time and this is easier to see if your mouth is dry like when you first wake up. Also I know I have some whitish marks that are from fluoride not decay so it could be that. Try not to worry but when you are able to see one a dentist may just put your mind at ease!

Checkups range in price between countries and dentists. In the UK my initial checkup was £80 and later checkups £40/50ish. In Australia they are about $100 as I like to book longer appointments incase I get in a panic but my insurance picks up a portion of that, so it's hard to say what it will cost, especially for treatment since you don't even know if you need any, let alone what. Have you found a dentist? Sometimes they advertise prices on their websites.

Hi GingaMilla and a big hello and welcome

No-one can ever diagnose something 100% over the 'tinternet' and I think the best bet for you would be to make an appointment - if you are able - or ask someone to help out with that, and get it checked. It doesn't sound major, and I think a little check up will put your mind at ease, and help to sort out your concerns.

littlestar88 is a star with her figures, and these will always differ from dentist to dentist, and country to country, so for me, I feel it would be really good if posters did put up where they come from.

Hopefully you will get the help and treatment you need.

Take care.

Kim

Hi GingaMilla,

You should definitely get that checked out! It's probably not anything major but as some of us have learned the hard way, tooth issues don't go away on their own, and usually get worse over time.

On the other hand, there's not very many tooth "emergencies" except the ones that cause you pain. So it's not likely that it's something you have to have looked at right away.

Bottom line, try not to lose any sleep over it, but definitely see if you can schedule a dental appointment soon to have it looked at.

Thank you everyone for the much needed feedback. I would have replied sooner but I have been a little busy with personal life.

I will give a dentist a call today, i found out my old dentist is still open(Not been for a few years) So i shall give them a call right away. Since I posted this message it's not hurt, or changed since I stopped drinking and eating sugary foods. I am trying a diet at the same time now too.

But I will let everyone know the verdict and any other updates which will be needed.

Again, thanks to you all for your help it is much appreciated. :)

Just an update, I am going for a check up on friday next week(seems a little long to go) but I will make sure i will not eat much sugary stuff and stick to the healthy foods in case the decay gets worse.

Good luck :clover::clover::clover: for Friday, it seems there are quite a few people on here that have appointments on Friday.

I know it's only a week but it seems a very long time away and I just hope the decay does not get too worse. :(

It won't get any worse in a few days it will be okay. Good luck with your appointment :clover::clover::clover:

There's another thread somewhere where Gordon says decay happens over months/years, so don't worry nothing will happen in a week.
