I am off for my yearly cleaning and xrays in 2 days, always fearing what they will find wrong and what will need to be done plus the usual anxiety of the cleaning, although I think I feel okay enough to get through that. I only needed one filling plus a small one for abfraction last year but my dentist prescribed a mouthguard which i haven't worn as even trying it I couldn't do that for long, it was due to abfraction - only needed one filling for that but think i may need at least another filling for that as the top left side is feeling more sensitive, but at least they are only 5 mins. so can get through that one. My main worry is my crown i have is 10 years old- no pain or sensitivity but the metal is showing and i fear it is due to something else other than wear. I did ask last year and it was okay so am trying to think it will be the same this year. How can i stay calm and get through this other than breathing techniques and trying to wait and see what the dentist finds? I am trying to stay positive but no matter how many cleanings/xrays i have, anxiety still gets the better of me and I fear what they will find (due to past visits when they have found bad things to get done)?

i wanted to switch dentists but most charge extra just for cleanings, I looked into some near me,so have to go back to where i've gone for 13 years, which i was hoping i wouldn't. They are okay, not bad but not what i'd like as the good dentist and hygenist (and assistant) have all left that I really felt comfortable with. I am a bit down due to having to go back but they don't charge extra for what i need so I'm stuck going there (for now).:( I will glad when i am done for another year so i can forget about them.

it went well, i got lucky, i was as calm as i could be but still had fear inside. I have acid erosion on my front teeth now so i'm going to have to look into taking more than Gaviscon as i don't want my teeth ruined due to acid reflux.:( I just have a watch on a molar (lower)-usually i get the cavities on the top so i don't have to return, such a relief! I don't feel my dentist is doing enough even though he gave me a free mouthguard last year but dentists' can only do soo much esp. when i'm a limited coverage. I will do better with brushing if that is possible as i feel i do a great job, try to eat less acidic stuff but i am doing that already but will see what i can change, and maybe try to wear the mouthguard even though it freaks me out! Any suggestions on how to fight my fear of sleeping with a mouthguard please?
