Extraction needed

Good morning, I just found this site yesterday and have been reading all night and this morning.

I have an extraction coming up and I'm TERRIFIED. I have had teeth extracted before- 5 to be exact. But this time I will be under IV sedation and I'm scared. The last extraction I went through they gave me Valium 10mg one to take the night before, one a hour before and one when there. For me it was WAYYY to much. I was still drugged up the next day. Will I feel that way with IV sedation?

A second fear is dry socket. Both teeth that need extracted are on the top (I believe they are molars) does this increase the chance of getting it?

How likely am I to get stitches? I was referred for IV because they teeth are up in my sinus cavity. I did hear stitches reduce the chances of dry socket ALOT.

Lastly, how long will I be on soft foods? I'm getting a tooth pulled on both sides so chewing will be difficult to say the least

Not only am I terrified of the procedure, I'm terrified of the recovery. Ugh

Not really, Valium really doesn't give a nice sedation, if you see what I mean, the IV stuff is different and far more accurately dosed, it's possible to achieve a pretty much ideal sedation effect with it.

No, funnily enough it reduces the risk. The absolute main risk factor though is smoking. If you can stop for 48 hrs either side of the extractions that lowers the risk considerably.

No idea without seeing the sites after the extractions are done. They can help to reduce the risk but it's not a big deal... to explain, dry socket is actually quite rare, despite all the horror stories, it's something like 1-3% of all extractions globally. If you reduce the risk by say 50% it sounds a lot but in reality that's from 3% to 1.5% (worst case to best case!), so much less of a big deal.

Lastly, how long will I be on soft foods?

As long as you want, I'd say the next day would be fine to eat what you like.

When i had IV sedation I was goofy for several hours but a nice goofy. i would not stop talking

I’m on day three after extraction and I’m doing ok. I’m no longer having pain or needing my prescription pain meds.

Thank you for replying. I went through with it. I can say I don't remember a thing after the IV went in my arm lol. I woke up and it was all done. I slept most the day yesterday but I am pretty sore on the one side.
to a fast recovery to you and me lol

I had IV sedation a few years ago and it’s terrified me, and I tried to fight it. Apparently, I went under and had the tooth taken out and have no memory of it happening. lol
