Hi All,
I'm new here. I have extreme dental anxiety and haven't been to the dentist in 12 years... I have a broken molar down to the gum line and it has an abscess - its to the point where I have to get it taken out. I am scared outta my mind. I moved to a new city and my work insurance isn't the best, but it at least covers some of the cost. However, the dentist group I have to go to assigned me their newest dentist, literally just graduated out of dentist school and has worked there for 3 months.
I went to have this abscessed tooth looked at last week and she wanted me to take a course of antibiotics first because the swelling was so bad and to come back this thursday for the extraction. She was sweet, but there was a language barrier so I feel like she didn't quite understand how bad my anxiety was. I'm worried she won't be good at the extraction or there might be complications because she is so new and it will traumatize me more. I unfortunately don't have another option at this point, the tooth needs to come out and they will not let me see another dentist there without first being seen and then scheduling the extraction appointment, which is stupid. Anywho - what are your guys' thoughts on new dentists?
Also, how long does an extraction typically take for an upper molar that is broken at the gum line? She told me she wasn't sure and won't "know" until she gets in there if it will be simple or more complex. Ughhh. I am sweating just thinking about this.
