Hi everyone! So heres my story: About 4 or so years ago I went to the dentist for the first time in about 10 years (im 24) and I was terrified. I have always had a huge phobia of the dentist. No idea why. So I go and have a few cavities but besides that everything seemed normal according to the dentist. I was thrilled lol. I was so afraid they would just want to rip my teeth out. So I got the fillings. After one of the fillings I did have some pain with one. The dentist chalked it up to being normal for some composite fillings. I accepted my painful tooth fate and went on my way. Months later I go for a check up. He takes X rays and says everything looks great! Cleans my teeth and im on my way! 6 months later I go back again for my cleaning, idk if you noticed, but I was starting to do really good with this dentist thing! I go in and sit in the chair when they tell me my dentist (who was really young) retired early so he could be with his family. So I meet the new dentist. The guy hardly says 2 words to me. Doesn't take new X rays, but looks at the last ones the old dentist took. Then the dental assistant comes in saying the dentist says I have 4 cavities. I asked her how that was possible when the old dentist said everything looked great? She says they all do things differently. I felt really uncomfortable with this. I got my teeth cleaned then told them I wasn't coming back. Fast forward to now. I take acting classes and have recently been asked by a casting director about my teeth. I have some crooked ones, nothing really too noticeable. So I figured, okay its been a few years and I should go back to the dentist again anyways. I just hate them
. But I sucked it up and made an appointment. They took x rays and told me first off I cant get a normal cleaning. I need a deep cleaning. This already freaks me out. Luckily my insurance wont even cover it for 3 months so I have some time to hopefully calm my nerves. Then he says I have one cavity. I felt relieved! Only one? Good! But he says I need to cap it. What? He said that there is already a filling in that tooth. He said I could either get it filled, or just cap it which I may need later anyway. But after finding out how much a cap was I went with the filling. I cant afford the cap right now, and since he offered the filling as well I figured it would be fine. I go in today for the filling. Anxious and my heart was beating like crazy. And after seeing the xrays the dental assistant (different from the first one) said that it looks like the dentist mentioned the cap because of the large filling. Well the dentist comes in and fills it, fast and easy. Until I bite down and it cracks. Yup my worst nightmare. Cracked. So he had to do it all over again
. He told me that I will need a crown 100% some day and I should get it done sooner than later. But he says he thinks this will hold for a while. Basically I cried. right in the chair. In front of the hot dentist. And now I still feel like I got nothing accomplished and everything is just getting worse
. I don't know what to feel and my anxiety with this is through the roof. They cant even clean my teeth at all since I need the deep cleaning in 3 months. So I don't even get clean teeth out of all of this
Does anyone have any insight? Or advice? Or a hug
