I am a pretty new comic book geek, and while browsing around, I found a copy of Action Comics #434 "The Kypton Connection".

In this story, an evil dentist (not a nice one like the ones on this forum ;)) slips Superman some chocolates laced with Kryptonite. Of course, this gives Superman a powerful toothache, and one he is in The Chair, the evil Dr. Xadu tries to brainwash our hero!

I thought you all might like knowing that even Superman has a bad time at the dentist once in a while.:giggle:

I know I take comfort in it.:)

Well that is going to encourage children to go and see their dentist. The big, strong, nothing can destroy superman is in agony at the dentist. :hmm::hmm::hmm:

I wish cartoons and comics would project a more positive picture of dentists.

Now me being a grown up thinks this is hilarious :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: :superman::superman::superman:

I know, I know. It is not the most flattering depiction of dentists, although there are plenty of other sources that do not make it exactly 'easy' for kids to see a dentist as a helpful and kind person either. I vividly remember an episode of The Wonder Years where Kevin Arnold's dentist is a pretty uncaring and insensitive dude. I think that episode scared me more than a comic book would have.

I actually kind of take a weird comfort in this reality though, because it means I am far from alone in my fear and anxiety. All these writers and creators must recognize this fear too.

BTW- In the beginning of the comic, Superman uses his x-ray vision to spot a cavity in Jimmy Olsen's molar. Superman advises him to "see your dentist immediately", so you see Superman has faith in dentists and guides other people to do the same. :)

Well I would think that when superman spots a cavity, it would be only good manners of him to fix it too.

He can spin the world backwards and blow rocks apart to save someone, he can do all sorts with his eye rays, surely he could fix a little cavity :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

You mean like this, Carole?

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl: yes. But now I have seen it I think I would rather face the dentist, he looks kinda scary, and what if he blinks

He does look a little strange, but I think I'd rather have handsome Superman with glowing eyes than a dentist wearing a scary mask and weird-looking microscope things on his glasses. . .
:p

PS: I think a few months back, any picture or mention of anything to do with dentistry would have sent me running in the opposite direction.:frantic:

At least now, I am able to joke about it and have a little laugh.:giggle:

I know what you mean this time last year I couldn't walk past a dentist without shaking, even if I wasn't going and I could not have come on this forum and discussed teeth and things. :)

I know what you mean. Every time I drove by a dental office, ANY office, I looked at the other side of the road. Didn't even want to see a building that contained anything related to dentistry.
