Getting 10 Teeth Removed On The 27th

I joined this forum a few weeks ago and was hovering before then. Figured it was finally time to post my thread since my appointment is on the 27th lol and now I am freaking out. This week went by so quick!

Backstory: I had/have really bad esophagitis as well as bad genes for my teeth. When I got the issue with my esophagus at first I had no idea what it was, I just knew I kept throwing up. Eventually, after a year passed I went to a specialist and they told me that's what I had. Hey, at least it wasn't cancer, but it still messed my teeth up pretty damn good. Over the past few years, I have been told by a few dentists I would need dentures. This freaked me out of course. Lots of money involved AND I am still pretty young.

Now: I am 35 years old and I am getting all my teeth removed over the next few weeks to get immediate dentures put in and then my perm dentures put in. My dad, thank god, fronted the money. That's the least of my worries though since I am a huge chicken when it comes to the dentist lol.

On June 27th, I am going in to have 10 teeth removed and then at a later date have the remaining 9 removed (some are under the gum line). Since my dentist knows and I made it pretty damn clear how petrified I am of him and the dentist and the procedure lol, he is going to give me a prescription for 10mgs of Valium. I am supposed to take one the night before to see how it works with me and also to help me sleep. Then, an hour before my appointment take another one. Then, when I get to the dentist they are going to give me nitrous. The thought of getting my teeth removed isn't really what's freaking me out. Its three things.

First off, I have had teeth removed before - some dentists were good and it hurt and some dentists were bad and it hurt.

Second off, the needles scare the hell outta me and hurt. It doesn't matter how much topical stuff they put on it before in the past, the needles ALWAYS hurt.

Thirdly, I am getting the snap on dentures, so after they remove the teeth they are going to put in 2 posts hahaha. Oh man, isn't that like cutting your arm off and then sticking cloves of garlic in the insides? This, above all else, is really really freaking me out.

So I am wondering.... is this valium and nitrous experience going to make this pain free? I heard some people saying they knew what was going on BUT they just... didn't care. Like they were there but just floating away into some other world ha. A few of my teeth that are going to be taken out on the 27th ARE cavity ridden. One in particular. I am taking an antibiotic now so hopefully the infection (which I know hurts the worse) will get outta there and the experience will be less painful.

Am I freaking out for no reason? People say that if you get both the valium AND the nitrous its your best bet and you won't feel anything.

I am also scared of the after the experience, experience but they gave me a prescription for both 5mg vic and 10mg vic. I'm not super duper worried about the afterward experience, just like.. sitting in the chair experience. Plus, on top of that, I want this first experience to be good and not traumatic because I have to go in that second time and get the others removed!

How long until I am able to eat like, real foods?
How long until I can smoke a cigarette/e-cig
Is it painful to have the immediate denture banging up against your sore gums after having the removal?
How long after I get these ones removed will I go back and get the others removed?!

Any support would be appreciated. Something to ease my mind and stop me from freaking out. I want this to be a good experience. I want to have nice beautiful teeth in the end. I want to be able to smile again and feel confident and pretty again. But, most of all, I just want to be able to EAT FOOD. The dentist is overly realistic. He said my bite strength, after all, is said and done will only be about 8%. The hygienist, however, said that while he is a great dentist, he does the glass half empty, rather than half full approach. She thinks my bite pressure will be further up to 40-60%. For those of you that have had this done with no complications (I have a good strong jaw bone!), can you now eat things like nuts, pretzels, and steak? Or no?

I actually have a list of food I would like to be able to eat. Funny as that sounds.

Well I'll try to answer your questions:I had Valium followed by nitrous gas. It worked great. They could have cut off my nose and I wouldn't have noticed or cared.:) As for real food, I ate real food at about 1 week. I ate mashed meat loaf, tator tot hot dish, pasta, etc. I ate anything without sharp edges, like potato chips. I'm not sure about smoking but I would think after the risk of dry socket was past. Around 4 days? No, it doesn't hurt to have the dentures over new extraction sites. It may be sore to eat for awhile but your dentures should fit fairly well and not move around. I waited 7-10 days before I had more extractions done but that is up to the dentist. You will be fine. I'm at 6 months with dentures and I bite into hamburgers , pizza and hot dogs.I don't regret my decision.
