Hello, It's been a little while since I've been on. Took a little vacation , not a needed vacation , but... one from the dental work . Ended up with an abscess 2 weeks ago which sent me into a wee bit of whirlwind and knowing I really needed to get on my dental work again as if they have to pull on left side it will leave me with no chewing area so have to finish off my implants on the right to do that. It's hard not having someone you feel a peace with when dental issues come up. The dentist I had been seeing but hasn't done any work on me wanted to immediately pull the assessed tooth on left and put a bone graft in. ( implant specialist said they would NOT recommend and that area needed healing before putting anything new in there being infected) They were very hurried and forceful and not listening.. which is odd as this dentist was typically very easy going but has a new manager who is a bit of a bully or a lot of a bully and he let her run right over him.. So... thought I guess its time for dental shopping.. which to me is interviewing and seeing who is best w anxious patients. I first saw an implant specialist , who was kind enough but didn't really seem super anxious friendly , just assumed everything was ok , didn't really check on comfort level and basically was kind enough but not extremely sensitive which caused me to wonder if its like this in an exam are they really concerned about your comfort during treatment. The 2nd place was at an office just down the road from me. Which I was super impressed with .. They have a therapy dog at the dental office, which is just so cool... the dog is the sweetest and a real calming presence. certainly a good sign they understand maybe a little of anxiety. Seemed to be sensitive to me during exam and also dentist had a calming ,caring presence, though a little quiet, seems to really care on all his reviews. The office person who goes through the treatment program was very non rushing, one step at a time validating like "you're in control" "we go at your pace". absolutely put me to ease.
Actually I also went to one more, and made me extremely nervous and a big no as 1. He was shaking like crazy both exams I saw him and little implant screws and the shakes don't go together for me 2. the bill was an immediate 25 grand or nothing 3. he seemed like he was under the influence of something slightly. So red flags heeded I did not go back there.
As soon as I get my finances situated. I believe I'm going back to the office with the dog
All to say as well, don't be afraid to do a few consults if time and anxiety permits. You learn a lot and can get a real feel for who might really treat you right! Wishing the best for all!
