I recently had to book an appointment with the dentist a few days ago after the first appointment as they said my cavities are getting a little too deep, and if I were to continue delaying treatment, I might need to go for root canals.

and due to my dental phobia, i have a total of 16 fillings to be done. ): (i am only 22 years old)
My dentist said that i would need shots as she knew about my fear of pain, but the point is that I am afraid of needles! ):

she said that she would apply lots and lots of numbing cream before the shot, but i am wondering how painful would it be? she refused to let me have laughing gas as she said that the shot numbing cream would be sufficient to curb the pain. how true is that?

I'm nervous and i'm gonna be in the dentist chair in less than 10 hours time!

Hi emilyg the numbing cream is a gel called topical and it is very good, you shouldn't feel the injection. She will put some gel on a pad and hold it on your gums, this will only numb the gum, she will then very slowly inject, if she does the injection slowly you won't feel a thing. If you find that you do not feel numb enough when she starts tell her and she can give you more. You should feel no pain either from the injection or the filings being done.

I just wanted to repeat what has been said already. I have had some injections in my mouth when I had deep cleaning done a few months ago. I was petrified myself and thought I would prefer to go under general anaesthetic or something. But I can say, my hand on my heart, that they are no where near as bad as I'd feared. They are absolutely fine. I may have had a little bit of numbing gel, I'm not sure as my hygienist was cool, but it was really really fine, no need to worry at all.

Rememner the shots are your friend. YOU WANT THOSE! Ask for extra numbing gel. If you feel anything at all, which you probably won't, it will be very little. Like a little pick or slight sting with only lasts for a few seconds, I promise. You don't need gas for that.
